I'm going to start watching Craigslist and the like. It occurred to me this morning that all of the JMS heeby jeebies are removed from my saw now...except the bar.

I paid $50 to him for a 25" Stihl ES bar and a barely-anything-left-in-it chain, but the sprocket tip on the bar is tight as hell and the guide rails are a bit rough. May as well chock that one up to experience as well. Gonna watch for something light and pretty!

Greg send me your address and I will send you a 25 inch bar of your choice. I have a lightly used sugi in stihl mount that I had on my solo that just sold or I have a new 25 inch stihl ES bar. The sugi has maybe 4 tanks on it.

I used to reload my 45acp's using clays powder which is also used in shotgun shells . Awesome flame and on target as well with a nice loud BOOM!! and comfortable recoil

Springfield 1911 cycled nice with it as well

No handgun has totally adequate stopping power, that is a silly statement. A shotgun slug or 223 HP will put them to shame, not even on the same page.

That said, handguns are often used because they take up so much less space.

FYI, I have don a lot of ballistic testing, and hand loading, over the years. I usually use soaked newspapers (stacked in a box) or wet phone books (when they were more common), but have also tested on pieces of Bluestone, steel & aluminum.

If you have to penetrate steel, go with the center fire rifle. A 20 gauge slug will not even come close to a 223.

So, if you were engaged in a fire fight with someone using a vehicle as a shield, a 223 would be much more effective than any handgun or shotgun. Likely, that is part of the reason they have mostly replaced shotguns in squad cars. Also, less recoil, and a lot more shots.

For those to young to know, a shotgun mounted vertically between the two front seats, used to be common place in police cars.

Had this conversation today with a friend of mine that is a 29yr veteran of the Winnipeg Police Service. The "inside" scuttle on the guy that shot himself was that he was a Tactical Officer and they were "training" in public. Even more interesting to me our tac guys have their sidearms on thigh holsters...

He reminisced about the old days with the shotgun between the seats. You never wanted to be the guy that had to grab that as you never knew if there was a straw or what down the barrel. As the weapon was assigned to the car not the officer no one ever maintained them.

I was on a vicious dog call. A Rottweiler was going bazerk biting everyone. An officer fired a whole mag of 13 rounds into dog at close range. Hit dog 9 times in chest. Dog ran away.
Three hours later, dog owner came home and reported his dog shot. Dog was still walking and barking. Lol
.40 cal stopping power at its best.
Some new 9mm rounds show really good ballistics.

I believe the story, but also believe they were not real good hits. If you have ever tried to hit a fast moving animal well with a hand gun, it is not easy. It is much, much easier to take out an animal (or person) who is just standing still.

Remember that attempted mob hit on the ex boxer? They shot him six times, but he survived because he kept rolling fast across the floor.

I have a Springfield XDS 3.3 in .45 for carry purposes and it is a great shooting gun, but it is hard to control because of the short barrel. A lot of pop coming out of the 3.3" barrel.

Use the same carry gun myself. Looking at the xde but the one I handled wasn't as dialed in as my xds is, so I'll wait. Starting with sigs as your first gun, you will always have a special place for da/sa.

Powder coating complete and shipped. Unfortunately, it won't arrive till Monday.

Next weekend is back to college, so unless I get some time in after work, this saw won't see much time until Sunday the 20th.

Just an update.

All good news, no matter how you slice it.

The cases did have a bunch of corrosion, scratches and chips on them. I'm very appreciative of the work this member did to help out. This saw will have a nicer finish than any I own.

I'm beyond appreciative. This is out-of-the-ballpark above and beyond. It's gonna look brand new.

12.7mm, I remember those - sexy looking rounds, nice bullet to shell ratio.

You guys have it easy over the pond.
No chance of legally owning that kind of weaponry ower here.
I think 12 gauge shotgun and .308 Winchester is the biggest I've seen among local hunters (no, I'm not a hunter but I know a few).

To stay on topic, 046 chainsaw - whatever that is . . .

WOW !!!
That looks monumentally better than the last time I saw those halves.
Talk about turning a bad situation around and making it the best thing that could ever happen.
Nothing short of awesome Doc !
The lengths you're going to, in order to make things right, is downright inspiring and humbling at the same time.
You Sir, are what makes the people here, and this sight what it is .............. awesome !!!
