Adding an air filter made it run faster, holy crap my brain is battered.
That saw is running the Preakness for sure.
Did you run the filter with all three pieces or some other combo?
Faster with a filter....the sky may be falling :)

It's crazy. Restrict the intake, restrict the exhaust and gain... Why are we porting???
Lol

Looking real good doc....

I noticed in some of the dyno charts that, without an air filter, hp #'so went up, but torque went down. Add an air filter, torque went back up. Something to ponder, I suppose.
I was pretty damn suprised when I checked the tach as well. It may be exactly the same with and without the filter, the saw may just have gotten hotter to account for the rpm jump.

All 3 pieces of a Definitive Dave AM 3 piece filter were attached.

The addition of the intake really woke the saw up, more than I ever woulda thought.

I'm thinking that less case pressure was a bit better in a saw that had uppers that were too high already. Who knows.

The puzzle of this whole thing is what keeps me interested.

Can anyone time the differences in the 4 videos?

On most of the Stihls I do. 026, 038, 044, 046, 066. On the 661 I end up with the key at .050. Not many Huskys get advanced. The 385, 390, 394, 395 do.
How much do you take off the 385, 390, 394, 395's?
I've never did an advance on any saw. Does it help on stock saws with just a base gasket delete and muffler mod?

The 385 and the 390 both have a cast in key. I just guess at them. About 1/3 of the key.

394 and 5, .020"

I'm assuming you go counterclockwise with the flywheel to advance. Right?

Exactly. I use a rope in the plug hole to stop the engine, then hold the flywheel CCW against the stop and snug the nut with a rechargeable impact.

I have not dealt with those saws, but 20/1000 on 044/440 with just dp muff and gasket delete works real well for me.

Yes, as you look at the saw, and the key is at 12:00, take 20/1000 off the part of the key above the flywheel, and when you install the flywheel make sure you twist it counter clockwise against the key. Sometimes I slip a thin piece of wire in to the left of the key after I am done just to ensure there is a void there (I remove the wire, I just use it as a check).

My eyes ain't what they used to be, so the wire check helps to ensure things are as I planned.

Al, did you put new rings in the saw? If so, some of the change may be due to break in, and not really reflect the filter changes, etc.
