I have a 2149 sitting here... and a NE top end. I should probably get them married and have someone spend some time massaging it...

Is that video what can be expected from a work saw? I assume you need the entire powerhead to get the timing numbers right?
Just a work saw, same as mine and others I’ve done

I'm looking for a 346 or 2152 if anybody has something. Gotta cut a bunch of trail into my timber sale and

I have a 20" speed cut narrow kerf bar n 3 loops of 23 rs pro collecting dust.

Not an Echo? I’m astounded. Why not sell the bar and chain and use God’s brand of saw? 😝

Sht I've owned more husq n stihl saws than I have echos.

My first baby husq was a 137. Wanted something lightweight fer flagging, staking and cutting brushlines. Staked out 20 acres of remote land through the alaska Land sales program.

Canoed 10 miles out Then hiked another 18 miles to a remote lake. Left the saw out there almost 20 yrs ago.
Pack had 5 gallons of gas, chainsaw, spare chains n parts, sleeping bag and a bag of potatoes. Caught arctic grayling and shot spruce grouse along the way, to supplement the taters.

Corner post #1 at the lake front. Saw was used for cutting out ice fer drinking water as well:

I’ve hoped that the AM would step up with more support for this chassis. At least @Duke Thieroff has good AM p/c kits for them.
I just picked up a scored 350 and it will be getting one of these Duke P/C kit once they are available again. @Duke Thieroff any idea when you will get more in?

I have had one on and off relationship with 346, have had 6 at the top, and also been down to 0, right now I have three, two in mint condition and all with heat.

The biggest weakness 346 has is boot, it is rare for other faults to appear on them, but boot recurs even on low hour saws.

When they used the plastic clamp system it was a weakness after the years took their toll, when they switched to metal clamp I feel that the boot nipple was damaged easily.

H&L has the Warhawk 346xp kits again. I don't know what their quality is like these days, but they were getting good reviews 5 to 10 years ago.

Revisited this saw over the weekend. I did the work sometime back in March this year. At the time I didn’t have a right-angle tool to comfortably work the upper ports. Essentially what I got was a 346 with more compression and a loud exhaust 😆

Still learning…

I went too mild on the exhaust opening on the inside of the cylinder and verified my timing numbers again. Took too much off base/squish. My ‘notes’ were just off.

Spent some time grinding on the upper ports. Found it quite challenging using the right angle handpiece controlling the chatter. Ports now set at 122 after taking my time. Widened the exhaust and got it set correctly at 105. Intake was good at 78 without any grinding.

Current numbers: 105/122/78

Have a few more cylinders to work on and will take the lessons learned going forward.

I watched a bunch of cc specialty video's a while back and there's one that talk's about about using a sweeping motion instead of a straight right to left movement. Imagine the butt end of the hand piece stationary in space and the end of the tool swinging back and forth, conversely the opposite works too, imagine the tool tip stationary in space and sweeping the head of the hand piece back and forth. It does seem to chatter less than trying to cut straight across.

Question box time:
How do you like your grinder? How big is the head (what mm is the smallest bore you could use it in)? Do you have a matching brand drive motor? If so what watt?
Looks like fun!
As I am still in the early days with regards to port work so I bought a generic Vevor branded 780w flex shaft, then added a right-angle handpiece later on.

It seems okay to start with, I can definitely see myself getting a better quality one later on. The foot pedal seems fragile being plastic. I would definitely want a smaller head size right-angle handpiece. Not much room in the 44.3 cylinder bore.

The straight handpiece takes a little bit larger that a 1/4 inch shaft, uses a key chuck. The right-angle handpiece has a few different size chucks, I use the 3mm shaft size.

Gotta be careful doing that in chainsaws with small ports. You can end up sweeping away the direction and fuel can escape out the exhaust port
