Mine is scheduled to be here tomorrow. Chomping at the bit I am. It's been in Roseburg since Saturday or so the website says, only 100 miles north of home. So close yet still so far!

I don't always understand how UPS works. It says it got to Roseburg on the 16th, from Nevada. Then on the 17th it shows that it was in Portland, about 275 miles farther north (180 miles north of Roseburg) and then back in Roseburg [emoji848][emoji848]

But the good news, it's going to be here, very soon [emoji16]

UPS: Depends on where the major terminal with computer controlled sort facility is. So it goes one way to Portland on the dedicated truck run, then back to you on the dedicated truck from Portland to Roseburg. It passed trough Roseburg the first time as the truck was picking up at Roseburg, not unloading, then to Portland for the sort, then on the dedicated truck to Roseburg to unload. Actually faster this way. The parcels are bar coded to the trailer, the trailer is bar coded and tracked, so each time the trailer passes a UPS location the info is uploaded to the UPS Mainframe computers.

Guess I am lucky, I live out at the end of the road on Washington's Olympic Peninsula. The UPS main terminal is in Redmond, WA, near Seattle, and between me and the rest of the world. I have a chainsaw inbound, it arrived at Redmond at 1:54 AM this morning and will be in my hands today.

And it left Georgia on Saturday?

First chain done on the new grinder. Tried 30* 60* 0* on a Stihl full chisel.

Setting up was pretty straightforward and easy. The hardest part was installing it on the work bench. What took the longest was trying to find a chain to experiment on. And finding the smallest cutter to gauge the chain.

Anywho, my only complaint so far was how the automatic vise grips the chain. Was working on a .050, so I had set the knob for that gauge. What would happen is, when the wheel would come down and clamp, the chain would "peak" or creep up at the center, right where the wheel comes in contact with the tooth. The chain wouldn't remain flush to the bottom. I'll have to take a picture of it next time to show what I'm talking about. Setting the knob to .043 fixed this. But what happens when I grind a chain with that gauge. Gonna have to fix it, like dirter mentioned.

Did a few test cuts. Wasn't impressed. I'll have to work on it again and get gooder and figure out the right angles.

Other than my first failed attempt I still like the grinder. It's fast and it will keep all the cutters the same length.

But that does me an idea for tomorrow. Stick a new chain in the grinder and see what angles I come up with and go from there.

Try 25 55 10. Maybe just a hair deeper into the tooth. I bet the cutters you ground would last a good while in hardwood

A friend borrowed this saw today. Was brought back with slightly nicked cutters. Decided it was a perfect time to try the angles.

I haven't been very busy cutting wood, so no chains to sharpen. But I'm anxious for more chains now. Might even try the first chain I did on Tuesday. Figure it's a test chain anyway, what can I mess up.

Ya, I think I'll do that in the morning.

I don't [emoji45]
I even thought about it while looking the saw over after it got back to me, then the thought disappeared somewhere.

Still prefer using a file, at the moment. But not unhappy with the results of the grinder so far. I would think it can only get better with more use.
