Hey. guys, not to steal any thunder here, but a logger friend just called to offer me his Stihl 084 -- runs good with a 36" bar, 404 chain. I think I could get it for $700 cash or so. I'd probably only bring it to GTG's after a good clean up and tune up. Should I gobble it up? Not sure. WDYT?

Buy it and have it ported and a pipe built for it[emoji1]

I was beaten once and only once at a GTG while running a stock Stihl 084 with a 36" bar. A ported Husky 394 did it using a skip tooth chain and airplane fuel.
Is that because there was only 1 394 there? I'd love to race an 084 with my 394 with 36" bars

I believe that was the case. My 084 (that I had borrowed) was the only really big Stihl that was there and his Husky 394 was the only big Husky that was there. I had beaten all the 066's, MS 660's, and Dolmars. Then he eliminated me to take the top prize. It was close, but that only counts in horseshoes. He said that the skip tooth chain made the difference more than the porting. Here's me in action warming up:
