@Moparmyway Here's my take on the 500i exhaust.
View attachment 353508
I’ve done alot of muffler mods with additional deflectors up front, I much preferr getting the exhaust out and away from the cutting area/operator area.

Them front exits towards the wood tend to keep the exhaust in close proximity with the saw & operator. Just my observations from my own experiences with adding those deflectors in that/those areas

I agree and do take that into consideration, so when it comes down to putting a deflector on the operator side I make sure not to get too greedy with making the hole and keep it well to the rear of the deflector so as the name implies, the exhaust and exhaust note get deflected forward and not bleed out so as not to ring an ear. Performance wise it's good to keep a balance inside the can and compared to the flat fronted aftermarket alternatives, is also a plus, maintaining the volume of the can, not reducing it.

side note: After running the saw yesterday I can say I was perfectly comfortable operating it without having ear protection on.

Took some time to switch from stainless welding (with purging) to machining cylinders. Started cutting on the 500i, looking for a reliable, yet torquey build for a daily use faller ............... lets see how @TINYHULK likes it after he gets it. More pictures coming this week as I progress to cutting the base and then porting it.

For the lathe illiterate. What type of lathe and minimum dimensions/features do you have to have to be able to machine cylinders?

7x12 is the bare minimum. But not crazy accurate or solid. 9x19 is sort of the standard minimum. And they work fine

That’s awesome! how does this build compares to your personal 500? You mentioned you might copy it or try something different. Just curious

Going to time it tomorrow morning and see if the cylinder is where I want it, or if she goes back on the lathe for a little touchup. Then I’ll think about where I want BD. I’m pretty much set on intake and exhaust, I’ll be pondering the uppers.

It would be nice if work leaves me alone tomorrow !!!

Sooo this happened today… made a new scabbard for the bucket and it went on a little too tight so it liked to roll up. Well it rolled all the way off with my 201 in it. I have a spare 201 that just needs a new cylinder that I’m going to take the handle off tomorrow so I’ll have a working top handle. I tried to post in the classifieds but I haven’t been around long enough to post there yet. So maybe someone here has a spare handle and chain break that I could acquire from them?

Do they use the same handle as a 192? If so I have a few extra.
