Just not a fan of working on clamshell saws.
If I decide to keep it I will tare into it. Really learn fast. Lol
That’s the only way I ever learn. I don’t honestly like working on saws in general I’ve learned a good bit just from buying stuff that runs. But doesn’t run well. It’s hard to find free time though Find a good clean area and tear that sucker open. I think you can tackle it.

Lol. Nothing to do with being scared. Everything to do with whether or not I really want to spend the time working on it and putting money into it when I have many Pro saws.

Funny. One if my engineer's handed me a MS271 farm boss. Says it seems to lack oiling as and to "hotrod"it. Lol. So I was wondering, would the 291 p&c fit on the platform? Says I have a sisable budget if I pursue it. Thoughts? Any input is appreciated.

I am not positive, but I do not think so. The 290, 311, 390 platform used to be interchangeable, but I'm not sure the newest ones still are. These are all clamshell saws.

I am fully aware it's a clamshell. Lol. I just see a lot of literature referencing 271 and 291 on the same line when I do silly things like....Google ms271 mods. Lol. Hence my curiosity.

I will say that the 280 model, even though a clamshell is a bit easier to take apart and rebuild than the 290 saws. I'd think that the 271 wouldn't be much different than the 270-280 versions...
One thing about the later ones, while you have it apart, if it was straight gassed always check the main bearings on these saws, they seem to go bad often given little lubrication..
