High Quality Chainsaw Bars Husqvarna Toys Hockfire Saws

Stihl 462s, they're not my cup of tea.

Can you Define "pop"...
I advanced the timing 7*.... it fires and seems to have a little crisper throttle response... rpms seem about the same... I haven't tossed the tach on it. I'll do thay tonight. Idk of I was over thinking things etc but, it seemed to get warm pretty fast... maybe Saturday I'll toss it into some wood and check the cylinder temp.

Is it mtron or adjustable?
I might’ve missed it.

The pop sounds like 4 stroking (might actually be?) but it’s usually a single or several single events, as opposed to the strung together sputter sound made by 4 stroking. It can usually be tuned out by leaning the h screw. If it were mtron you could assume that the tuning was taken care of and it was too much advance causing it rather than being slightly rich

7 is probably enough and getting close.

It's an Mtronic. No worries, I don't think I elaborated or detailed if it was carb or mtronic.
Though, The reset never reached a full cycle... so maybe that could be playing its part?
I did the 30-40 second idle with chain brake on, then took brake off WOT... it sputtered like they do... picked up in rpms, you could hear it searching and smoothed out a little... but it never went 13k+ and then dropped rpms... maybe I'm using the wrong reset/calibration???

I’d disengage the brake so the clutch isn’t tapping it for 40 seconds.

You used the right process to calibrate it. All 462’s use the same procedure.
Not sure why it didn’t take unless maybe you bumped or let off the throttle slightly in the middle of it

I'll try it later without the brake. Ty.

Awesome. That's good to know!

That's a great possibility. When I get home I'll warm the saw up and video the procedure.
I'm not the greatest at explaining things.

I just bought one, haven’t started it yet. Contemplating stashing it in the closet for later or sticking it into the tree service line up.
Makes a great in tree saw Chisel. It is so freakin light. The powerband is great. I am using a 25" bar. Wish it was a light bar. Lol.

The calibration only yielded 12,500 rpms... at peak rpms it sounds like it wants to go higher buuuuut.... idk. I have 460 bearings in it, which are heavier... I also have that heavy piston in it... I wouldnt think those two factors would impact the saw this much...
What do you guys think? I'm about to machine the pop-up off as suggested and then toss in the 462 bearings.

Does anybody know the OEM piston weight?

Have you guys ever noted the recal procedure to do much?

I used to do it, then I heard of it being part of the piston skirt crack issue.

I subsequently haven’t noticed a lick of a difference in doing the reset vs just cutting with the saw until it “found itself”.

I really like my ported 462 With a 25” ES Light bar. That and the 261 are my go-to saws.

BTW, heavier bearings should have nothing to do with saw rpm.

I've built (3) 462s.... to me, they're not junk, but, they don't impress me the slightest bit... I'd much rather grab a Husky 365-372xp or even an x-torq... but, Stihl had it right with the 461s... 🤷‍♂️
