An outstanding looking saw...I’d have the damn thing in a glass case!

I'm just building one of these on a 10mm 044 but have put a new 12mm crank and piston etc in .Are there any differences and any things I need to watch out for

You need to make the crank fit. The 10mm case is a bit smaller. Need to relieve the big rod end.

Take a look at your 10mm vs 12mm crank when it’s out. The 10mm crank is easily identified by its rod’s large end, it’s machined and not as forged. You’ll see it.

I did one in my “Hybrid Time” thread if you’d like pics.

Does the smaller case volume affect the recipe?

Thanks for this. Have put an 044 crank in so that fits nicely .

It does a little bit on 1122 saws with different case volumes and cranks. They also have a different case gasket and oil tank volume.
@Definitive Dave did a thread on 1122 and may have the info on 1128 cases. My 12mm 044 is tight compared to the 046/460. 10mm is tighter yet as you know and Doc said.

Are using a 52 or 54mm bore?

I didn’t vary it, and it did seem to run a little better than the larger case volume builds timed the same.

As for gasket sets on the 1128’s, the 10 and 12mm 044/440 use the same gasket set. The 046/460 set is different because of the larger case. The easiest way to ID the 046 kit is by the PTO seal which is roughly the same size as the 026/36 seal (in fact it may be the same). The 044 kits have the larger seal because of the crank spacer.
