Here she is at 15k with a 28”. Didn’t change the tune when I dropped her down to the 25” above so it was a tad fat.
Changing the bar doesn’t change the tune

The saw gets hotter and leans out more in bigger wood with the longer bar. Stays cooler with shorter bar. At least after measuring the tune hot after a cut.

I can hear the tune when you pissrev it before you start the cut. Sounds good in the 28” vid and fat in the 24

Yes, I tested this particular hybrid today at 14.7k and over 15k with a 25” bar and 8 pin buried. It lost torque and cut slower over 15k in timed cuts in the same log. Takes fuel to make power. It’s definitely too fat at 14.2k or so. Sweet spot seems to be 14.6-14.8k. I thought hmm... must be just this hybrid... nope. Ran two other hybrids and they did the same thing. Sweet spot was 14.7k as well. Lost torque and cut slower at 15k plus. Same story. One of the hybrids was even 4 stroking clearly to 15.8-16,000rpm! I guess just because it 4 strokes up that high... doesn’t mean it should be tuned screaming... gotta tune em where they make power. Lean is mean in short cuts racing maybe... but not long ones with a good load on the saw. Interesting stuff. Learned me something today.

I never touched the screws, just switched fuel. It was actually slower with VP but it was too lean to make good power. If I would have adjusted tune the VP comes out on top.

Just throwing this out here since this is a 044 thread. If anybody would have a like-new reddish air filter cover I would be very interested. My hybrid that John Boy Built Me fell off the shelf and cracked the air filter cover it is not the new bright Stihl Orange.

I have a 4ft dia elm to bring down before snow flies, I'll get some video.

That's a special one. I have been watching / searching for over a year for a nice Arctic 044/440. The only cleanish ones I have found are in Quebec and my French isn't good enough to convince them to ship it too me.

I bought this one new in 2006. I was 19 years old and had a handful of money from my first deployment. I called my Dad before I came home and asked him, if you were to buy any new saw right now, what would it be. He spent his whole life in the woods and has ran every brand of saw. He reccomend a Stihl MS440 with a 24" bar and mailed me the Stihl brochure from the dealer. That's when I saw the arctic option and had to have it. I came home, went to the dealer and ordered it. The hybrid build and tsumura bar were direct results of all you CAD m'fers years later.
