stihl 362 conversion questions

Wanting to know what is needed to convert from an mtronic to adjustable carb setup. Any help is appreciated.

What all is required. Do I need a new coil and flywheel? Or do I just need to get it switched over to a manual adjust carb and unplug the electronics?? Need more specifics please.

1140 400 1200 B flywheel

1140 400 1302 ignition coil

1140 120 0606 carburetor

1140 185 1901 choke rod

1140 442 1601 contact spring

1140 440 3000 wiring harness (or maybe the original could be modified)



May Need to Have: (or I haven't tried the ones from the mtronic machine they may work)

1140 182 0901 switch shaft

1140 141 0802 filter housing

1140 121 6901 baffle (may come as assembly with filter housing)




Nice to Have:

1140 080 1616 shroud (or you can adjust carb with shroud off or figure out how to add holes)

1140 080 0900 air guide shroud (the one on the mtronic has a wire guide that interferes with the choke lever working,
I'll post a pic later.) The circled plastic by the screw has to go. The upper circled part may need to go. I may find out tomorrow.

Yeah I know it's old. I was asking this same question and couldn't get an answer even from Stihl. My 362 CMR has been sitting for about 3 years. Bought a non-mtronic semi-running saw and got part numbers from it. The parts list I found didn't jibe with the current one from Stihl. Also somewhere someone posted a parts list to convert the old style air filter to the HD2.

Anyhow, anyone else looking for the answer. . .
At least it's available.

I had to start it at WOT and it was burning P&C's. Even with 32:1 mix. Tried a new solenoid. It acted like it would run, new meteor P&C and it would bog and a 261 with the same bar and chain would out cut it. Also wouldn't idle long enough to do the reset. So swapped it all out. Once I get a few tanks of gas through it, it will be sold. Don't have a use for that sized/weight saw. 261's for ground work and if needed but a 25" on one if needed in the tree. The 362 is just too heavy for in the tree.

I had a 261 leaking from the oil pump on the pickup side. Replaced the rubber hose seal with one or two (can't remember) #47 o-rings (11/32" O.D. x 7/32" I.D. x 1/16").

I use a 261 to chunk down. The 3xx or 03x series saws are over 10% of my body weight.

034 should be about the same weight as a 261. 036 is very close to both.
Your preaching to the choir I weight 135-150lb soaking wet in winter gear. I weight near 170 climbing in the summer dragging a few lines and gear. Do the math, get over it.
Might sell my 260.

Actually far from crap those black HD 2 filters are the only factory filter ever made that stopped Australian red gum saw dust fines getting through and that includes husky and Dolmar .
