I dont suppose anyone has a line on a velocity stack type setup for an 090? I'm sick of the useless filter design, and I'm constantly worried about it sucking in some crap when working it hard on the sawmill. I have a couple of the angled K&N filters in, but don't have the means to make a manifold for it. would a V-stack from a husky 2100 bolt up?

Id bwt if you posted up some hole pattern and space dimension info. Someone would either make one or could tell you more.

Knew I'd forgotten something! From memory it's a Tilly HL 342 carb, I'm not sure of the hole pattern but I believe it's the same as a HL 360 if that helps!

There's lots of velocity stacks to fit those. Look at Kart racing places

Thankyou! I'll see what I can come up with.

Edit: would a HL 360 be a good swap for a ported 090?

I have a HL360 on a Mcculloch 101B powered saw and after 5 years of messing with it,
It still don't run right. I'd like to take that carb and throw it as far as I can into the deepest
forest so no one will find it.

Too much fuel or not enough?

Runs out of fuel at an idle. Have the same carb on another 101B saw
and had it worked over by a guy in Canada and it runs great. Tried
to have him do this one but he messed it up so I had to get another
carb. He was 93 at that time.

There's a few guys thst are great on those carbs. Should be small enough to be pumping right.

It's only 1-1/16 throttle bore. But it's the full race carb where the venturi
is about the same size as the bore. Smooth all the way through. I had
Jon Brogden do some stuff to it and it was still not right. He used to
work for EC carbs. I for the life of me can't understand why the carb
runs dry at an idle. Like it looses it's pulse.

Race carbs are designed for flow, with the lack of a good Venturi you are not pulling enough air to get a good signal at idle

Give it a pressure check. The metal layers of the fuel pump are prone to warpage over time. I've had to file some flat on HR snowmobile carburetors(same size pump) to get them to seal between all the passages that are inside the layers. If pressure check fails and needle and seat are good, look at the indentation on the gaskets of the fuel pump, if there is a spot missing, that's your leak. Either replace it or resurface it flat. I've filed the little sealing ridge right off, and finished with sand paper on a piece of glass. Sealed up good without it, better flat than warped I guess. New pump disks should be available from Tillotson if in fact this is your problem.

If the pressure check passes with flying colors, try pulling a small amount of vacuum to see that the little anti drain back flaps are holding. if not replace with a diaphragm kit, which should be done every other season to really stay in top shape anyway. Full kit in between for top racing form.

This has happened on two different 101 motors in saws with two different carb's.
One was modded by a 93 year old guy who seemed to know his chit. and fixed the
first one I built. but the second one he couldn't remember what he did and messed
up the carb. Had to buy another carb. Both carb's are brand new. The one that's
giving me fits now has a thinner fuel pump diaphragm. Tried different pop off settings
and still will run the carb dry at an idle.
The pulse signal is coming through the intake to the mounting flange and is perfect.
I had thought about installing an external pulse line to the crankcase but i'm sick and
tired of pulling this saw apart just to take the carb off.

What is your pop off pressure at now?
