I also discovered a way to repair the AV mounts that have the metal separating from the rubber.
I scrape in left over JB Weld and clamp it together in a vice.

Sticks them back like new again!

Dipped into the Stihl shop today to see if any of the bits I need are still available.

Throttle cable assembly - NLA
Front AV buffer - NLA
Spark plug shroud spring - $2
090 AV name plate - $15
AV handle bar - $654

I didn't order the handle bar.
I would be interested to know what the handle bars cost in te states.
1108 790 1106

I would also REALLY love to know if someone has a spare front AV buffer they could bear to part with.
It is number 10 on the diagram below

Well its coming along slowly.

I am still chasing a front AV mount and handle bar

I did get an OEM 090 AV badge and plan to repair the top cover.

Have a new oil tank cover ready to be fitted and have repaired the chunk missing from the edge of the spark plug hole.

I had a fella here today who has 2 x pristine 090's. HE showed me pics and I was very jealous.
We spent some time talking about the poor old bent, broken, worn, hurt 090 I have and I said I am determined to make it run again!

Its become an epic task but I will get there eventually, even if I have to manufacture the parts I need myself...... IT WILL RUN AGAIN!

It's so close, yet so far away.

As long as I dont need to pump the auxiliary oiler 400 times per cut like this guy, I should be fine.
I never knew you had to pump it so much?

Fast f0rward to 7:00 for a laugh

I just counted and he pushed the oiler button just over 200 times in 2 cuts

A bloke looking like that probably get the girls, but he cant use a saw!

You gotta wonder what really makes a man sometimes dont you!

If the 070 I have to build runs that poorly I will be ashamed...

I did a bit of work on it today.
Got the new oil tank fitted up, installed the new fuel lines, connected the new stop switch, fitted up the new spark plug boot and spring to the ignition lead, put a new spark plug in the top and when I stood back and looked at it, I thought....... IT should fire up!

Put some fuel in the tank and once the lines and carb were primed, off she went

ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The governor was closing the choke off when I gave it a rev so it works well. Stops the saw over revving with no load on it.

What is the best method of tuning these saws with the governor?
I assume it is set to max RPM with the H screw and the governor should kick in after that if something happens to make the motor spin too fast. like running with no chain?

bypass the governor.

I will if it causes me issues.
I do like the thought of it as a backup to stop over revving if a chain throws or it gets an air leak.
If the spring wont give me enough adjustment to let it rev I will trim some material off the wind flag to let the revs get up to where I want them before it starts closing off the choke

Next job is to fabricate a new front AV mount

Roughed up the back of the plate and the rubber so it would stick.
Mixed up some devcon, put some in and clamped it lightly in the vice to let it set.

Used the extra devcon to fill a drilled out screw hole so it can be returned to the correct thread size and build up a worn area behind the dog spike

Ya getting there Brewz nice work looking good.. With the governor just wrap the spring around a few times and hook it back in the teeth so the flag does not move you don't need it. that's the 1st thing all the old loggers did back in the day, with the governor disabled just tune the saw as you would any saw..
With the governor enabled they run almost as bad as the saw in that dudes vid above thats just shocking!..I honestly don't even know why they have that governor they are the same as any saw you control max rpm with your tune..
(edit) with the manual oiler that would be no you don't have to pump it 100 times per cut lol..It's a backup manual oiler for when running very long bars doing very big cuts, the adjustable auto oiler can keep up fine 99% of the time you can adjust them to spew the oil out..

This is the auto oiler adjuster bolt.

Thanks folks, I am really happy with how its coming along.

Once this is done I can focus on getting the handle bar fixed.

Its not going to be a show pony, but I will love it just the same as if it was.
