New thread for the rebuild of this saw

Story......

Picked up this saw with an 088 as cheap basket cases that needed some love.
The 088 is ok but it's the 084 I'm interested in!

Stripped it today.
Aux oiler cable is working, bonus!!!!!!!

The cylinder and piston are pristine, original rings have bugger all gap so it's done little work, just never been cleaned which has rotted a lot of the paint off in spots.

But pretty don't cut fast right!

Coil is limited...... that won't be going back in.

Heated the case halves so the bearings near fell out, just a light tap with a plastic hammer. Original seals are still soft and tight.

WD-40 is great for lifting the carbon deposits. Cleaned, washed out and re oiled they feel like new ones so they are going back in considering new bearings and seals would be well over $100

All the parts are clean so tonight I am going to make a new case gasket and get the case back together again

What I want for it is done 088 spikes as the 084 spikes are thin and bendy

She was a dirty girl.
The aux oiler cable is still working
The oil pump hose is still in as new condition and had not been leaking so I decided to leave it all attached, clean it up and get it back together without having to replace the oil line.

The bearings and origional oil seals were also in tip top shape so I heated the case halves and they just needed a light tap from a plastic hammer to pop the bearings out.

Bearings and crank seals are perfect.
Cleaned them out, oiled them and they will be going back in.
Tee seals are as soft and pliable as new ones.
If I have issues it is not a big job to replace the seals but with the bearings costing almost $100 to replace......

Ive only done a few and didn't get very wild.
Widened and got the exhaust down some
185lb or so
I'll have to look at my notes to be exact but the numbers I used were no different than a 066. Exhaust is to high just the same as a 066.
The nla cylinder makes you think a little more about what and how much your grinding on, does me anyway.

This one was 97/120/68

I have a cheap Chinese piston on order to use as a sanding mandrel.
Plan is to drop the jug to get exhaust down to 100 or more and cut squish to .022 ish

will see where the transfers and intake are at and decide on that later

I hate to cost you any more than you planned on spending but those darn things have a tendency to nip you in the end when a saw starts running a little harder after some good tlc.

Yes I do tend to agree.
I rang the Stihl shop and canceled the $60 seals when I found the Greek on eBay has them for $10

I will use the $50 I save to get a nice set of the thicker 088 spikes
