After some fairly serious consideration, I think I will keep this saw.

The 090 will be fixed up and moved on.
Its just too big for anything I may need.

Will sell the 42" bar I bought for my 066 and get one to fit this saw.

It will be the big wood / milling rig.

The 090 is cool just because of its size, but when it comes to use......... the 076 will do me.

Will look at porting options, muffler mod options, and will chase an OEM crank.

Part number is 1111 030 0402 and the crank is used in 050,051 (after 1976), 075, 076, TS50, TS510, and TS560. I hope this helps.

Thanks mate

Problem is, a new crank will be about $2000 here
The little rubber ring for the oil pump cost me $38

I am going to have to look for a good used one on the US ebay site.

Going to clean it up on the weekend, add a touch of oil and see how it feels.

Now that there is a Husky 2100 in the room, the big chunky 076 is looking shaky.

Cleaned out the crank bearing and it feels good.

I then dug the Cross Performance P&C out of the box to compare it to the OEM gear.

Inside the Cylinder looks fantastic, ports are nice and tidy.

OEM on the left, Cross on the right

The piston had MUCH smaller windows, at least 30% smaller than the OEM piston.

After a bit of grinding they were looking more like OEM piston windows.

Started assembly this afternoon, thought I would get the bearings fitted up to the crank while I wait for the case gaskets to arrive.

I decided to test the bearings in the housings and on the shaft prior to fitting as I always do.

Well........ Not Happy Jan!

The flywheel side bearing housing is loose.
The bearing drops in and has a couple thou side to side movement..... too much for some centerpops and locktite to take up and be reliable.

A bit of searching on Ebay and I can get one out of the UK but I am up for $120 posted.

At this stage I am too far in to drop the project but its looking more and more like a break even preposition.

I had a bit more of a play with the crank and I am not 100% happy with it, so there is another $100

I will have $500+ in it by the time it runs.

I am thinking of taking it to a local engineering shop to see if they can sleeve it for me cheaper than I can get a replacement.

On that case bearing use some green retaining loctite with the primer let it set up then assemble it. It will outlast this rebuild.

Now, don't shoot the messenger.

Not recommended!

Go get a strip of 0.001 feeler gauge and some Locktite 51813. It will out last us all.

At the rate you have been picking up saws, put it aside until you pick up a decent parts unit. You have plenty to work on. Just don't let yourself wind up with 5 or more projects hanging out like that...

I have ordered a new crank as the main bearing had very slight corrugations in it and would not have lasted long.

I will get some loctite and repair it. The bearing has not spun which is a blessing. I would say it got stretched a bit and the crank got damaged with all the force it took to get that mongrel clutch off

Have no fear in the green locktite. If you need the number off the bottle let me know.
