FWIW the super cylinder is the same bore as an 036 .The problem is the covers won't fit exactly right if you use an 036 cylinder on an 034 AV .I did only one 036 cylinder to 034 engine and I didn't have any 036 plastic to see if that set up would work .The saw ran fine though .
I've got another super on my to-do list that runs fine but shows a little scorch on the exhaust side which may or may not need a piston .Won't know until I get into it .
I like the fact this model has ample power plus it doesn't weigh a ton.Nice firewood size .However if it shows it might develop problems it's best to get on it before it goes completely bad and takes the cylinder and Lawd only knows how much more .

What did you do with the oem jug?

That was burned out and shot, so it wound up in the trash. This saw also looked like it had been run over by a truck. The case was still intact. That's about all I had to work with. I'm rather surprised it was not used to anchor a rowboat.

That 034 I did with the 036 cylinder, the saw had been mistreated .Of course I rebuilt it and ordered an air filter from Baileys .Must have been after they got sold out .Typical they back ordered the damn thing and it took a month of Sundays to ever get here then the freakin thing was the wrong one .That was the very last time I did business with them .Trotted off to the dealer and paid less plus it was the correct one .Mumble grumble .

I believe I got most of my parts needed to rebuild this saw from HL Supply. That was about four years ago. No complaints and fast service. I must admit that it's been awhile since I ordered anything from Bailey's. My local dealers cost an arm and a leg for parts.

Not bad mouthing Baileys but remember it's boot leg stuff because they aren't a dealer plus you pay freight on it .Unless your dealer is a crook it will be cheaper there but you have to pay sales tax on the stuff .
Like restoring an 034,you can find the parts on flea bay but often used stuff fetches more than new so you have to have an idea of what it sells for .On the other hand there of plenty of people who sell salvage so that's another often less expensive option .

Do you guys know if an 034 super came with the 036 style recoil? All the 034 S I've seen have the round pattern recoil on them. Asking because there is one for sale that the guy says is stock but now I'm having doubts.

Round pattern should be MS360.

All of the 034 standards and Supers I've seen have the rectangular metal Stihl badge on them, have SN's that start with "1" and the recoil badge generally says "Stihl-Made in West Germany".

There may be exceptions.

BS artists and hucksters come and go on forums .They blow in and out all over the internet .Every so often they get a little "Kentucky " justice though --just saying .I've never been stiffed from stuff on the forums and only a few times on flea bay which I always got what I ordered ,just took some time .
As far as going go go eyed over modified saws I do my own if I feel like it .However I have both the knowledge plus the means to do it and some do not which I realize .My suggestion is finding somebody you can look right in the eye when doing business with .

Or there are reputable builders on this site that have PROVEN they are trustworthy and will give anybody a nice saw that will last..unlike some others.
