which set up is better for this saw if it is stock? i know this saw isn't powerful compared to modern saws built today.

On par with a farm boss. Their oilers are suspect, but dependable firewooders they are.
They really like their timing advanced.
And transfers raised..
But that's for another day.

Like the others Jake ... .325 and for me 15 or 18 inch.. Max... I had a 028 av supper that had a very unrestrictive standard muffler plus a little more HP than the standard saw. A real likeable saw for general tasks that would be good to carry in the truck .

They made so many variations of those dang saws. I got 3 different ones in the shop.
The 028 super is the best performer of the bunch. None are exactly light.
All have poor sideways balance.. Lol.

028 Super was first new saw nearly 30 years ago and still runs strong. Had 5 or 6 that I've fixed up and sold. Now also have 028 salvaged from a fire. Done nothing to it except clean it up some.
