You can take away my old beat up car, I can live without it. But, please leave behind my four 028 Supers:

It's tough to live without them. They all start, run, and cut.
The 028 series have cut a lot of firewood.

which set up is better for this saw if it is stock? i know this saw isn't powerful compared to modern saws built today.
I ran mine with 3/8 and 16" bar. Love to have that saw back.

there is $2.00 difference between the 16 and 18 so its going to get a 18 .325 .063, im going to open the muffler and have a peek inside also.
i suppose the 028 super is similar in power compared to a standard 026

Not really.
026 has more RPM
028 has more usable torque

I have 6 running 028's and like all of them. All different but my 2 supers. I run .325 and either 16 or 18 inch bars. I just got a 026 so l'm anxious to compare the difference.

I have found getting pumps and gear drives is posable. The 028 just has a bit more going on under the cover to drive the pump than the banjo drive on a 026...iv not had them come in with the pump itself fail that often, more blocked up through lack of service.

I have one that either doesn't oil at all or at least very little I have had it apar too many times and I cant find what is wrong with it. The gears look fine. Ive used compressed air on the oil passages.
Any tips? Matt?

Random story involving a 028

My nephew brought me one that came from a friend of his that is as he put a little slow but the hardest worker he has ever met. It was an 028 wb, he tore it down, way down pulled the crank seals and f'd the seats up. It was his grandfathers saw and it wasn't running so someone said it may be the cranks seals or carb. I ended up taking a running saw I had put his handles, covers and b&c on it. I gave it back with the condition that if he had any problems he send it back to me before trying to fix it.

I guess he was happy as could be.

Just find another pump body..
I've had to do that with 2 so far.
There was no visible reason they shouldn't have worked, but they just wouldn't put out.
My super oils great, always has.

Have you guys ever watched the original GOL videos?

Soren talks about the round curve that the clutch cover has. I know its an 026 in the video. But similar design feature.

That's awesome! Now I know why it's important to have a metal clutch cover on a professional saw.

I really like putting narrow .325 narrow kerf B&C on saws of this size, really does make a difference cutting. No guff. SS

Stihl was doing some serious pimpin' when they named this saw, 028AV Super Wood Boss electronic quickstop. With a five dollar handle like that, how can you go wrong? LOL
