I use a silvey razur sharp 2, I have no idea what angles I'm at, I just kept dressing the wheel until it looked how I wanted it to when I grind.Does anyone use a silvey square grinder. we have one but I never use it. I suck at it and the chain goes dull too quick. It was just easier for me to use the USG. I hand file some round, and suck at it as well.
I'd like to practice some more though, and hopefully mature into a skilled square filer.
No. Wouldn't be any point (pun intended ). You can convert round chisel tho.I need to try this black magic voodoo chain stuff
Likely a dumb question but can you square file round ground semi? As in, is there any point?
No I do it so I don't use up my double bevels as quick if I want to change the top plate angle a lot. I will hit them with a round file if the teeth are hard and the double bevel just slides on them.Should you always sharpen a new chain round first?
I wish I had kept the old Silvey 300 for round grinding chains and taking race chains back. I could get the side plate straight up and down and not have to file so much.I dismantled my Simington to fix up another grinder. Yeah, I'm needing to get it back together.
In the mean time I've been goofy filing for the practice.
