Essentially the same thing I do. Always put something along the lines of

"Saw is running, but it is a 2nd hand used product sold as is for parts"

I learned my lesson with paylal and eBay years ago. Sold a $7k motor, freighted through trucking biz, 0/1 feedback buyer. Apparently never arrived, no postal tracking number. Trucking company delivered it, signed for. Paypal would not accept this as proof of delivery. Guy got a free motor.

Still crap happens, live and learn.

Best of luck trooney.

7 grand i would be driving to someone house!!!! either stomp his ass or be would be getting a bottle of bleach

Dont sell that much, I really should have. I think I have a pic of the compression readings Lee. BTW - was going to stop by when we did vacation this year in Cape Cod, maybe next year. Going back to Chatham.

Come on down anytime.

GUYS read the Ebay terms - all of these stories are terrible but some of the advise is bad and wont protect you.

If you describe an item as running, then saying "for parts only, not running" doesn't matter, anything that can in any way be construed as confusing or misleading goes in the favor of the buyer.

Ebay does not want to be a garage sale, they are trying to compete with Amazon not Craigslist.

Describe your item honestly and take a metric *s-word-ton of good clear pictures, add a video as well. Make sure they show distinguishing features.
Hell drip colored hot wax on your screw heads to prevent parts swappers.
Make them send any defective item back and look it over well for any signs of tampering or misuse that you can show to Ebay in support of your side.

In the end you cant sell anything on Ebay that you cant warranty because the user agreement says you are warrantying anything you sell to be completely as you describe and picture it.

Thats the saw and the exact pics I put in. Still looking for pics of the cylinder. I stated in the add no returns, and even if I said 30 day it has been about 40. Had no contact with her whatsoever except when she was inquiring about the bar, which was shipped separately and came a day later. Why inquire about the bar if you don't plan on using it right away. Also, the lady is 63 and unless shes a former body builder she most likely gave it to someone to use. That someone roached the top end. I guess my faith in human nature certainly let me down this time. No more selling on ebay unless its for parts. I am done with all the bullsh$$. I just hope the saw looks somewhat like it did when I sold it.

That's a bad deal. Hope it's not in too bad of shape when you get it back.

So I sold my 084 on fleabay about 1 1/2 months ago to a lady in Florida who was probably going to use it for storm cleanup. No communication from her in that time frame and no feedback either. The saw was in great shape when it left my house, fired it up before I put it in the box, piston was clean and had lots of compression. So last nite I was going through my email and I had a dispute from Paypal. This lady claims that I misrepresented the saw and the top end is roached. Wants her money back. Paypal says she will probably get her money back and then if I want to I can file an appeal. Are you kidding?!! She used my saw for a month (I highly doubt that she used it) roached the top end and gets her money back. Whatever happened to taking responsibility for your actions or those whom you are responsible for. I know, I know, I shouldn't have sold it on ebay. But GD, this just sucks. That is about 1k that I have to pay for somebody basically renting my saw and returning it to me damaged. Pissed off is the understatement of the century. I was starting to get the old stinking thinking about going down to Florida when I get that chainsaw running and just letting it rip through her house while she stares in amazement, then turning around and telling her there is nothing wrong with this saw. I am amazed at the balls of some people. I couldn't sleep last nite I was so pissed. Anybody have this happen to them and how did you deal with it besides a kick in the sack?
People are the worst.
eBay always agrees with the buyer.

My experiences have changed in the years of being an eBay member...

I've bought a lot more than sold over the years. Nowadays I avoid selling on eBay as much as I can, between the fees and B/S... sometimes it isn't worth it. However, the "exposure" you can get with certain specialized, rarer or collectible items is undeniable.

As a buyer, I have no concerns buying stuff... fully protected and they've always made right by me. As a sporadic small seller.... for the most part its been good, but I've had a few bad apples. Honest description, lots of pictures (highlighting any damage or potential complaint form buyer) and video (started more recently) for the listing or myself.

A female homeowner buying an 084 Just don't sound kosher.

I got screwed once on eBay with electronics. Guy said the part didn't work, when it certainly did. Ate the entire cost and I knew he was lying. I wished that Karma came back and bit him on it.

I'll only sell parts saws or a hard physical item on eBay anymore.

Sometimes it costs too much on both sides of the transaction on ebay..........Chainsaws are much more reasonable locally,For the seller and the buyer.

Or to buyers on sites like this.

I had to lean on ebay once as a buyer. I bought a high end tuner and when I received it, the LCD didn't light. I immediately communicated the issue with the seller and we agreed to have me open up the unit to make sure shipping didn't simply break the filament in the back-light bulb. When I did...

Darn thing nearly went Chernobyl. Needless to say he wasn't happy and ended up eating quite a bit of shipping... and got a piece of poop back. His lack of packing skills also allowed the unit to take some damage.

Superficial yes, but everything added up to a unit I would not have paid that much for.

Bought and sold tons on ebay and have had 2 bad experiences. It's part of gaining access to a worldwide audience.

Well, thats that. Paypal found in the buyers favor and she gets a grand and I get a busted saw back. I think I'm going to turn this one over because if I dont things could get real nasty. My only hope is to come out losing as little money as possible. Man this sucks. Paypal is a communist company. They told me that if I want to see the information that the buyer provided that I would have to get a subpeona!! I told him he had to be fu***** joking!! He said that he wasn't. I then proceded to laugh my ass off!! Thats the funniest thing I've heard in a long, long, time.
