With a little luck they just used it to take care of a tree, then decided they didn't need it anymore, and went this route, so they didn't have to "buy" a saw for a one time use.

Sorry this happened trooney, people have no conscience. I know a guy who buys tools from Home Depot and saves the packaging. He'll literally use them for years and then return them.

They might not have roached the top end, they may have just swapped it out and kept your good parts. It happens quite often apparently

Both very good points

When i sell a saw on ebay i sell it as parts or repair then there is no recourse on there part. I describe it as it is even if it's rebuilt i still
sell as parts or repair do to it being a vintage or a used saw.
I see those descriptions selling as parts saw because no way to prevent owner abuse or parts scammers. Terrible have to cya to that extreme.

I had a very similar experience when selling a set of Kubota fenders. The buyer complained about the condition even though they were perfectly pictured and well described. after PayPal sided with him for a return I contacted them and showed them the defects he was complaining about were well represented and they made him pay for shipping both ways. he happily complied and in my mind if he was willing to do that and eat 80 bucks he was admitting he made the mistake. It was a pain. I was so bothered I quit my eBay store. They asked why so I told them I felt like I had noone on my side as a seller. They were of course shocked. Lol.

How solid was this saw? Do you know the history on it? Were the crank seals recently replaced? Carb recently rebuilt?

You know what Fellers ....this is a bit of a sad situation regarding what should be a really good way to sell and find stuff if it wasn't for the ones who cock it up for the rest of us.
I sell and buy a few things on Ebay in the UK and have a 100% rating . I have not been put in the crappy position Trooney and others here have but i get the sinking feeling it may be just a matter of time. Yea...iv had a few bum things that iv bought and it could be argued they sailed close to me having a claim against the seller but iv never gone that rout. Ebay offers me a way to reach the numbers of folks I need in day to day life to give me some sale's turnover that i would struggle to get.
I think the "Scam" is always going to be the one that is really really hard to see and that the scammer can hide behind Ebay and Paypal is a bitter pill indeed !!!! Im as careful as I can be but its always in my mind some A hole may be out there.

So I sold my 084 on fleabay about 1 1/2 months ago to a lady in Florida who was probably going to use it for storm cleanup. No communication from her in that time frame and no feedback either. The saw was in great shape when it left my house, fired it up before I put it in the box, piston was clean and had lots of compression. So last nite I was going through my email and I had a dispute from Paypal. This lady claims that I misrepresented the saw and the top end is roached. Wants her money back. Paypal says she will probably get her money back and then if I want to I can file an appeal. Are you kidding?!! She used my saw for a month (I highly doubt that she used it) roached the top end and gets her money back. Whatever happened to taking responsibility for your actions or those whom you are responsible for. I know, I know, I shouldn't have sold it on ebay. But GD, this just sucks. That is about 1k that I have to pay for somebody basically renting my saw and returning it to me damaged. Pissed off is the understatement of the century. I was starting to get the old stinking thinking about going down to Florida when I get that chainsaw running and just letting it rip through her house while she stares in amazement, then turning around and telling her there is nothing wrong with this saw. I am amazed at the balls of some people. I couldn't sleep last nite I was so pissed. Anybody have this happen to them and how did you deal with it besides a kick in the sack?

Okay, I assume you have heard of bank account(s)? Once you get money in the PayPal account, transfer it to a non-PayPal account, preferably in a different bank. That way no-one can touch it, and she'd have to take it to court if she was serious.

Generally you need a bank account linked to your PayPal account, so if the funds aren't in your PayPal account they take it from your bank account regardless of whether funds are present. I only know this as I've had it done to me and they put me overdrawn in that bank account without even telling me!

It is hard to keep from getting ripped off. Do keep shipping info and do have a proper detailed description. The Kubota fenders mentioned earlier are a prime example. At least the only thing bad he had to deal with was wasted time. I lost my money and my item.

Best one I had was a courier lost a stihl 028 I'd just sold, so eBay ordered me to refund it then 3 weeks later I got a confirmation email saying the saw had been delivered! Got in touch with the guy and thankfully he was honest and he sent me the money back, but I could just have easily have been shafted! Agreed I should have insured it for the full amount but hey ho, live and learn

Essentially the same thing I do. Always put something along the lines of

"Saw is running, but it is a 2nd hand used product sold as is for parts"

I learned my lesson with paylal and eBay years ago. Sold a $7k motor, freighted through trucking biz, 0/1 feedback buyer. Apparently never arrived, no postal tracking number. Trucking company delivered it, signed for. Paypal would not accept this as proof of delivery. Guy got a free motor.

Still crap happens, live and learn.

Best of luck trooney.
