I understand completely. I believe there was also a straight 643 ( I'm not sure what the IP means anyway) and a 642 you might keep your eyes out for as well. The 636 was the same size saw but a little less powerful if I remember correctly.

I'd also look at the smaller Dolmars and Echos for something lightweight and reliable that's more readily available.

Best of luck in your search

Indeed, I have never seen one, or know of anyone who has one.

As cheap & obviously cheaply built as the MS170/18o is I'm finding it hard to upgrade from for this purpose, as any seriously better saw very quickly jumps in weight to the likes of a 346xp, 2153, 026, Solo 650, still lite, but not quite what my ocd wants.
350 Husqvarna converted to a 346xp. Check that avenue.

Here’s the cover I had repaired by Shaun Carr after stripping the remaining paint. There are some small pinholes in the area of the welds that cannot be helped but can be filled. Tomorrow I’ll fill em with a metal glaze and maybe even shoot it. We’ll see. The plan is to not use primer and paint with an acrylic enamel I’ve had mixed to match the saw. I’ll paint the black inside the circle with Lawson High Solids Gloss Black and try not disturb the patina on the lettering. image.jpg
