Another Solo in the house! It looks to be about 99% complete and has spark.:) I’m drying out the tanks now. 1st chore will be to get her running.image.jpgi don’t know how many of the early models they made that were not clamshell designs, this is the first I’ve seen that has case halves to split.

I was looking over my collection this morn and realized I own other Solo saws that aren’t clam shell design. The 620VA, the 630 looks to have case halves. I guess I was just surprised, I could see from pics even, that this saw (640) had metal tanks. The 630 does not, it has a plastic gas tank and for some reason I associated that with clamshell design saws. But even that is not completely true. Seems these folks were all over the place for a very long time and it makes it harder to date them and keep up with a bunch of different designs.

I have the 634 / Farmer 33 IPL and in that one the chain brake is yet another design ...
All the ipl's shows an other variant.
Even parts saws have the Same setup as your IPL.
Do You have a partnr from the chainbrake cover?

Unfortunately not. The only writings on it are "SOLO" and "84".

Looks like my saw is a pretty late 631 which may have undergone undocumented revisions.

When I wrote the above, my knowledge was that the model had been introduced early 1980s and discontinued
mid 1980s. Therefor my assumption to have a late make of the model.
However two other sources claim the 631 was built from 1984 up to 1987.
Then my saw would be an early one and maybe later the series had been modified
with the early variant not covered in IPLs?

Anyway, I have completed the little red one:

Chain brake engaged in the pic above and break released in below pic.

Thought I’d share my pain. That cool Solo 626 I made the deal on is LOST IN THE MAIL. Should have received it last Wed.but now all that tracking will say is that it’s enroute to the destination. Sucks.
Even the post office can’t find it. E81B08B3-6889-4BEC-9161-85E4E6D6F4BD.jpeg

It'll likely make it eventually. I have a saw coming that I bought on ebay two weeks shipped "parcel select." It finally made it to the Seattle service center last night and it's only coming from central California,
about an eight hour drive from.

I agree JJ. I had a box coming from Wilhelm in Croatia in the spring. It’s usually a couple of weeks, but took two months. A box with a saw in it is usually too big to just disappear. Even for the USPS. Lol
I’ve had saws be completely lost on the tracker, with no trace of it, and all of a sudden, weeks later, just show up on my doorstep.

@av8or3 I have a feeling you’ll have a positive outcome.
