Anyone hear of crank problems in the 665/75? I thought it was just an issue with the 681's.

When they first came out they were bad to have the crack slide apart and start vibrating like mad. I'm pretty sure that was just an issue on the first run of these saws though. Sure gave the brand a black eye.....

Same saw with a different topend.

I know. Mine is a 665 with the 681 top.

That's what I'm getting at. Was it just a bad run? Or to much power for the crank? Was there a date of manufacture that this issue went away?

I wish I knew more. I've seen a 675 with a bad crank before firsthand. I did a older 681 and had it welded.

Falicon dues beautiful work. I forget the exact cost, but I think it was less than $150. I heard the horror stories and did it for insurance.

Was there any performance gain from the truing, balancing & polish?

Pic when out of wack. This is one of the ones Dan had come in when he was a solo dealer.

I can't really answer that, but I highly doubt it. I did it for insurance, so as to not see all my other work destructed by a potential crank failure. Would that have ever happened? I have no idea. I just didn't want to find out.

Dan told me that they were so bad at one time that he refused to mess with them at all. I've done about 15 of these 665s and haven't seen any crank issues yet. Of course none of these saws are getting flogged on.
