Just put this small saw together. Ported, muff mod and timing advance. Gotta get a B/C setup for it.

The handle was broken on this one when I bought it. Just ordered a new one out of Germany.

I picked these two up last weekend. The were thrown in as a boneyard purchase. The 34 Deluxe is in very nice shape. The 35 not as much, but not too bad.
Fueled the 34 but I couldn’t get it to pop.
I don’t find much info on either. The 34 is made in the US

These saws are based on a design that started in about 1973, I think by Trail Manufacturing in Trail, BC who made them for many different brands (other manufacturers also made these I believe, no idea where the design came from). There were countless variations, and the 35 was about the last one made (until 1992 I think).

Here are some of the models:
Frontier Mark I, F35, FB35; Husqvarna 34, 35; Jonsereds M36, M361, M361av, M365; Skil 1610, 1611, 1612, 1613, 1614, 1616; Partner 1612, 1613, 1614, 1616.

Parts are somewhat interchangeable, but honestly the design is pretty durable and simple. I got a Skil 1612 free, needed a carb kit and fuel line. It has no fancy features like a chain brake or anti-vibe, but it's light, loud, and vibrates a ton compared to modern saws. Some of the later versions had anti-vibe (Jonsered M361av at least) which would be welcome. I think it's a fun little saw for quick jobs in small stuff.

I stole an ms180 from a friend a while ago. It has it's ups and downs but terribly fun to rip through stuff with 16" bar. Wish it didn't have ez start system. Currently torn apart to fix gas leak (again).

I haven't gone that deep down the rabbit hole of porting things myself, but I do want to modify the muffler.

Just haven't taken the time to take one apart and do it. Should have done it when you sent me parts to rebuild my saw.

This t525 really is simple to take apart. Need to take advantage of that and get it done.

Going from this

To this, really made a difference for the Ol wood shark. 5/8" i.d.

I actually pounded the 2 small factory slots closed while I was in there.
Figured why have the hot exhaust gasses passing directly in front of the jug at all.

Check for spark. They are known for dead coils. I’d bet the coils would swap between the two you have. Run a tank of gas and your hands will be numb for three or four hours afterwards. They have lame chains as a rule, but Oregon 95 or Picco will fit. I sold mine to a dude that had more jewelry in his face than Denise has in her top dresser drawer. Yowza!

Well designed and well built, feels like a saw not a cheap toy, adequate power and a good auto oiler.
They were as bulletproof a saw as can be.

I found the 330 to be a very solid saw:

Hi guys. Been thinking of adding a small saw to the line up. Have An Echo cs590, couple 6401 Makitas, Stihl 039, 285 CD Husky and a POS Ryobi 4618. Plenty of 60cc saws and really don't need the 285 for cutting as most of the trees are 20" or less.

I've got 30 acres up here in Alaska that's in serious need of selective clearing. Lots of small alder and Willow. Also a s-word ton of old punky blowdown and beatle kill.

I enjoy running the saws but its a little over kill and tiring to be cutting 1"-4" alders with a 60cc saw.

Looking for thoughts and suggestions. Been thinking Makita ea3500, dcs34, echo cs352 or 400 maybe even the cs490 as it's less than a lb heavier than the 400. My neighbor has a Stihl ms250... Nice light little powerful saw, but can't justify, in my mind, spending that kind of money on a 45cc clamshell consumer saw. Curious to know the pros and cons of the listed saws, clamshell/split cas, inherant problems etc. Not opposed to brands either. Not concerned about dealer support. I maintain my own equipment and generally buy parts online.

Thinking $200-$300 range, about 10 lbs or less(pho). Thanks guys. Hope y'all are having a great day.

Not a great vid, but gives you an idea of how they run and sound. This is a CS390ESX (38.4cc 9.8lbs)Echo running a 15 inch bar and 325NK semi chisel chain and a 361WES(36cc 8lbs) running a 14 inch bar and vxl chain. Their first tanks, cats removed and gutted exhausts. Running a bit rich for break in. Cutting seasoned oak.

Echo 355's, 360's, and 361 are very strong saws, especially for their weights.
The 355 like my other echos seemed to take a long time to break in. Once it did it ran with my ms250 no problem. After grinding the restrictions out of the air box it showed good gains also.20181222_163611.jpg
