I hate skip in small trees, thinning and brush. My legs are battered from skip chains throwing debris at me. I have only run semi skip square grind while felling cedars. My go to thinning chain is full comp chain with low vib straps. Cuts good and doesn't throw chunks of wood lol

From there:
Full-Skip is our best selling sequence. It is usually preferred by customers who run long bars and cut large softwood trees. Long cuts, common in these conditions, require the chain to carry chips a long distance before they are expelled. Since chips ride in the spaces under and between the cutter teeth, users have found that by reducing the number of teeth, a chain's chip clearing ability improves. On long and deep cuts, this enhances its performance. A side benefit is that it takes less time to sharpen than the other sequences. Its bad traits include that it is prone to vibration, its lack of cutter teeth make it grabby in short cuts, and its kickback potential is high.
Bars 24" & Under
When running a bar length of 24" or less, full compliment is the best choice. It will always be the fastest and smoothest cutting sequence on short cutting attachments. Even those who are tempted to select a skip tooth configuration to reduce sharpening time, will find full compliment doesn't take much longer to sharpen. On short bar applications, there are are not that many more teeth.

I only have one full skip chain. 24" bar that I use for noodling. It makes some long noodles.

Thanks for everyone s replies I got what I was looking for. Maybe it’s more of a regional thing. The companies I’ve worked for in Ontario everything was full comp even long 36 or 40+ inch bars, same with the tree guys that did side work. Almost like square ground chain in my area, good luck.

CFB is going to grind one for me and through lots of phone calls I’ve found some files in Canada. Something else to learn.

full comp is the way to go for short bars and small wood. my 32 has semi skip and 36 have full skip square ground. i used to have a 42 it had full skip as well. i had full comp on my 32 for a while but it just takes so much longer to sharpen and it didnt run as good.
