I'd be curious to try those on my Grasshopper 930D... The bar tread tires work, but they chew up a lot of crap. I mostly farm mow, so it's not the end of the world, but what little OCD I have gets set off if/when I burn a rut.

I highly recommend them. I have them first on my Old Wheel horse, and now have them on my JD 430. My Dad switched his JD 318 to them from lug bars as well.

I really want some on my ztr but was reading that they do not self clean mud real well.

You guys that have them, how do they do in a muddy environment? The grass grows in the spring like crazy and it is almost non stop rain. Mud packing is a concern of mine.

I have been in some mud with them, but not a lot. I don’t recall it being an issue. I don’t want to steer you the wrong direction though.

Also heard they are extremely rough on turf on a ztr. Read that if you skid a wheel it pulls the sod up like a sod cutter! Again, just read from people on the internet. And we all know about internet people! :D

I could see them being hard on the turf if you are turning on a dime.

Have them on a ventrac at work also. They do good, but will also cake up and stick you.

Which engine do you have in that Ventrac? Dad and I have been tossing around the idea of a commercial mowing business, focusing on industrial and realty properties, and for less than perfect conditions, that appears to be a hell of a machine!

The 4500Z has a 32.5 hp Kubota gas engine (962cc) according to their website.

I believe that engine is the gasoline conversion of the engine in my 930D Grasshopper. If so, it should run forever, running a lot less compression than the IDI diesel!

Looking at a 2005 Kubota bx24 tractor. Has a hydrostatic transmission. I know nothing of HST. Engine is 55ci/23 hp. what is your opinion? Will pull a box blade?
Will be using it to maintain gravel drive on a hill and to construct and maintain trails on rocky hillside.

It should pull a 4ft box blade just fine. The tractor is light. So you will definitely want to add wheel weights or fill the tires. Especially if your primary use is on hills. Box blades really weigh a lot once the box starts to fill with gravel. So keep that in mind.

Does this rig have a loader?

That's an itty bitty machine. Super handy, I'm sure, and worlds better than a wheelbarrow and a shovel. It would not be my first choice to pull a box blade though, especially not if hills are involved. Maybe if the driveway is very small, and you get some wheel spacers. Honestly, I'd try to find something in the L2501 size, if you want a capable machine without breaking the bank.

I re-covered my neighbor's driveway. While it isn't a box scraper (which does use more power), I started with my 8N, but couldn't get the control finesse I was looking for. So, I put the 6.5' blade on my B8200, and it did amazing well. If you're going to use a box blade, especially with the shank rippers or scarifers, then I'd stick to 4-5' max, keep in 4wd and leave you front loader attached for front axle weight.
