Treat yourself to a nice Gransfors Bruk. They are much, much nicer than HB.
Or if you prefer USA made, get a Hoffman. Only one I know of that forges the polls so they can be used for banging.

Now just for curiosity sake. What good does forging the poll of the axe do?? I’ve never had a h b axe nor a g b. What makes one better than the other?

If you ever but a HB or GB, they specifically tell you NOT to use the poll to bang anything. It will deform the eye. They only forge the sharp bladed end. Lol
Hoffman on the other hand tells you right out that he forges both the blade AND tbe poll so it is safe for striking without deforming the eye.
I have both a HB hatchet and a GB hatchet. In my opinion, the GB hatchets are much nicer than HB. They look nicer, and seem to be put together a little better. Just my opinion. GB are a bit cleaner looking.

I’ve never in my entire life heard of an axe you couldn’t bear with. I’m thinking that’s just nonsense. And forging wouldn’t change the actual metal composition. Smoke n mirrors. Not bashing either name I don’t own either.

That’s a better handle. It’s a truper. Funny story. Old man picked me up an axe handle. Same as the one on the maul. I didn’t even ask for it. He musta heard me cryin about the other one. I showed him my broken handle and he went to his truck and pulled out a new one

I wouldn’t wanna beat metal with an axe. But I’ve beat pretty hard on wedges. All freaked out when a tree won’t cooperate. Then get back on the saw cut into my wedge get major kickback. Then bug out some more lol
