I guess I'm going to have to remember this. Sad thing is that I would have to bring in a special 404 bar for noodle cutting. I sold all my 404 bars with my Stihl 084 and 088 saws that went out the door with them. So, I guess I'm stuck with 3/8" pitch.
Id say try it before buying a setup. I tried the 404 on a 28" on a ported 440/460 and a 7900 also. They ran it okay but u could tell it just didnt have the nuts of the 390xp

Interesting, pretty close. Would like to see this on a ported 50cc saw. :)

my thoughts as well. I think if you made 325 and 3/8ths the very best they each could be. I think the 3/8ths would edge it out on the 661 and 64. But there is something to the 325 and it certainly would be interesting on a smaller saw.

@Redbull661 how do you think a 10 pin .325 would run?

be interesting to try it out. I don't have a source for those.

I ran a ported 361 with 9 pin 325. Slowed it down considerably. No torque

really had to take the rakers down a good deal to get the thing to cut right on the 661 and 64.

if anyone is interested I'll sell the 325 chain, 9pin 325 sprocket, and tsumura 325 tip for a good price

@Redbull661 trying to guess where you ended up with rakers by looks. .035-.040ish?

Sounds about right but would have to ask Scott. @tree monkey This was right before we left for Randy's GTG. He was grinding while I was hurriedly testing all sorts of stuff as the sun was setting. Ended up testing well after sunset (dark) using the head lights of my car. I'm sure Scott's neighbors were like what the heck. lol

I need to check on it. I may buy up what's left. Takes me years to wear out a couple loops now.

Last I checked they where only offering RSK, no more square ground or skip sequences. Did they do away with RSK too?

Not sure but I bet it won't be too much longer. They only had some loops left and no rolls.

Would be great to see 3/8, 3/8LP/Picco, and .325 compared.
Am still trying to figure out a way around picco's chip clearance issues.

I like square file full comp for just about everything, including noodling and milling. However, I cut almost all hardwood, for sticky softwood chips, skip would likely work better.

I just received a 36" chain, 3/8" pitch skip tooth from a logger. He has never used skip tooth to buck big cottonwood logs, so he gave it to me. Looks like it's almost new and hardly been used. I asked him, "Andy, where did you get that skip tooth chain? I never knew that you used skip tooth in the field."

He said, "I dunno. It's yours now."

It's lying flat on my bench. I guess I'll have to give it a try with my Stihl MS 660 or 064. Should I buck cut some red elm with it tomorrow? I'm tempted.

I used some semi skip on a 36" on my MMWS 2188 with an 8pin over the weekend and fugging loved it.

I'm curious as to why you would measure the times of down cut vs up cut. That's a function of the operator, not the chain.
