Here's a steel counter with brackets that I made when I remodeled my kitchen. All shaping of the brackets was done free hand on the anvil. The twisting was done using my post vise.

Drilled some holes in the top over the radiator to allow tge heat to circulate a little better in the wintertime. Having the steel counter beside the stove in nice for a place to set hot stuff that comes right out of the oven. The finish is just rustoleum hammered silver color spray paint.

Very nice! I cut, weld, and beat on steel a lot for work. Along with electrical work and any other aspect of my job. Do a little of everything I guess. Really would like to incorporate some wrought iron into the remodel we are perpetually involved in here. I guess I'm just used to working with steel in an industrial environment where it has to be strong and not pretty. Have been learning to do a lot more with wood the last few years. Always thought it was the softer, gentler touch that would be needed. Learning now its not always that way. Wish I had gotten into it sooner. Learning that any material one works with needs to be handled with a balance of knowledge and "finesse".

Thanks. The possibilities are endless in what you can make. Steel can be had cheap at a local scrap yard for making most things. Especially if you're making knives. There's always a pile of leaf and coil springs!

Here's some strap hinges that I made for my blacksmith shop. This was actually the very first thing that I made. I did go and buy 1/4" X 4" flat stock and 5/8" round stock for the hinge pins.

It was harder than I thought to roll the ends till I got the hang of it. Setting the hinges so they opened and closed straight was another challenge.

I had about 40 hours in all 6 sets of hinges.

The hinges are 4ft long opened up.
