In this case....the crank had been pulled through the bearing as far as it will go....so the spacer rides on the bearing....not the crank. The clutch and washer sandwich it. If I do up the clutch/washer and spacer on the crank that has no bearing, the spacer is STILL sandwiched TIGHT. ...and I can get the e clip on.

It seems like the spacer is too long, but the tolerance of what fits and what doesn't is super tight.

I ordered some more spacers, so I'm going to mod this one and see if the whole shoot fits.

Grinding on the spacer worked. The clutch side..NOT the sealing side. About .030" off is all I needed. The sandwich still grabs.

I'm wondering still where the difference is between this and oem. Is the crank 30 thousands shorter? Was the spacer too long? Is the pto bearing too thick?

I think I may have it figured.

I think the china saw kits are coming with pto bearings that have 11mm thick inner races.

I just got a set of am 440 bearings. ...from a different supplier....and the inner race measures 10mm.

Does anyone have a China 440 kit saw unassembled? Can you measure the thickness of the inner race?

Does someone here have a set of oem 440 bearings....can you measure the inner race?

Here is an 11mm thick 6202...it sticks up from the landing...the bearing is just here for size comparison!

Here's how the bearing arrangement on the china saw looks with the crank fully pulled through....look familiar?

So... .353" = 9mm???

So, it seems to me that if the bearing that exists in the china saw cases, is indeed too thick, that would push the bushing out far enough to make sure the clip doesn't go on. Without the bearing, the bushing/clutch clip assembly works fine. So, in my mind, the bearing thickness is the issue.

So, I need a measurement of an OEM 440 PTO side bearing... for thickness of the inner race. is it .353" or something else? because it sure looks like the china saw simply has too thick of a bearing...and thats the WHOLE ENCHILADA of the issue.

Good findings Matt. I have not installed the seals yet if you need any other measurements.

No... I'd need to tear yours apart again to come up with the needed measurements. I'd really like to see the measurement of the oem bearing. ...

I have some more parts for you Jeremy... I'll deliver next week. I think the solution is going to be to either grind on the bushing...like I did for your saw, or to remove the pto bearing from the factory and put in the properly sized bearing. then everything *should* fit.

Can anyone give me a measurement of an stock 440 oem bearing inner race? how about the stock crank landing... where the bearing goes?

Can anyone give me the measurement of the china kit saw pto bearing as it comes with the kit?

Here's the very long and boring video. Skip to the last 5 minutes if you want the interesting photos in summary. I think they included the wrong bearing with the kit....

I don't know if @MattG can help with any sizes, he been rebuilding a 44 to a 46 so has had the whole thing a part, weather he's tossed the old parts in the trash is another thing

My casings are the 10mm w/pin 044. I've got some brand new oem bearings still packaged, but as it's 7.30pm here, and I meant to chilling out, I'll go outside and measure the bearings tommorrow it that's good for you still.
Let me know.

If you ask me service tools are under rated!
Totally agree. I recently spent a lot of money on the famous stihl crank tools "AS" and "ZS". It was money well spent enabling me to reinstall the crank many times whilst clearancing things, with no need for heat or hammers. :)

Its years since I bought my first kit who fit Husky 254/262, after I got used to it I dont bother to start with a project without a proper kit.
I gave away my 550 crank mounting kit and will buy a new one, pluss the 550 splitter.

IMG_2229.JPG So the 440 huztl kit that Mattyo installed the crank in for me (in the video posted above) needed the spacer on the clutch side filed down so the e-clip would fit on. That created another issue, the oil pump worm gear then sat proud above the spacer. 6 seconds on the belt sander fixed that(picture is after sanding), but there has to be a flaw with the kit somewhere creating this issue. I really think it's the aftermarket bearing on the clutch side. It must be thicker than oem.
