Yeah dad still has no love for the ms661 IDK he flooded it or something at the start ya got to hold the trigger flat when they flood lol. chain is RS .404
He's getting on now mid 70's still cutting firewood. That's some old rock hard 20 plus year dead standing red ironbark he's cutting.
It's was near a gate had signs nailed on it that's why he said about hitting the nails.

Seems like he would probably prefer an old gear drive for that hard wood lots more torque.

Yeah if ya ask him the 090 is still his favourite saw. He call's a ms661 a little saw lol

Some testing of a 592 I did. New recipe. With and without Red beard saws filter and one with a modified top cover.

Caught the dirt after one of the cuts so the 2nd and 3rd test weren’t a direct comparison. I also think it needs more time for the carb to adjust. The saw felt better in the cut with the filter and modified cover, slightly more torque.

Thoughts?

Brother @Ronie is sending me the missing starter I need to build what I hope to be a good running saw. Call me crazy but I’ll be using a 630 jonsered cylinder on a 266 chassis and see how it compares to my 262 there with the 357 carb.

Those 2511s really impressed me how much they pull for 25cc after some port love.

I love the 044/440s, and my 10 mm 044 is likely a bit lighter, but the new 400 and 462 are lighter yet, smoother and have the clean air filter tech. In addition, you no longer need to carry a little screwdriver.

So, while I will never sell my 10mm 044 (I've had it since new in 12/92), when it comes to getting work done, I usually break out my two ported 462s.

It took 30 years for anyone to come out with a lighter/more powerful saw than the 044/440, but it has finally happened.

Geeeez carrying that little screwdriver all those years bothered you that much!

It has been awhile since I have been on here but you gave me help on fixing my Stihl 440 with some Farmertec kit parts last year.

I am glad I got a quality gas vent separately from the kit because it was probably you that said the kit vents did not work. So I replaced that after smelling gas fumes and all has been good for a year of sawing.

Stocking up on supplies because of inflation. Ordered two cases of files, bunch of loops of chain, 5gals bar oil etc...prices are jumping fast.
