24" 3/8 Archer loop touched up a bit.

24" 3/8 Husqvarna /Oregon Vanguard loop touched up a bit.

Both chains are making chips the size of noodles. Am I doing something wrong?

I've heard it mentioned that rakers too high will slice long chips, where lower rakers will dig and break off a smaller chip

Depends on the wood type, chain setup and where you are cutting it regarding the size of the chips I found in my experiences. Closer to the stump/ground will make bigger/longer chips sometimes since the fibers are going in different directions. The more torque a saw has the bigger the chips as well when you lean on it. Too much chainspeed in hardwood just makes dust and dulls the chain faster.

The ported 461 I had in the videos earlier I broke in today falling. This is where it ran the best. It’s probably 14.5 before a long cut where it heats up and leans out... why you have to be careful not to set them too far on the edge, you want a bit of safety margin. 14.8k is where it likes to be. Even there it will 4 stroke sometimes in real small wood if the chain isn’t angry enough. I have to say I’m very impressed with the fuel economy on this thing, downright thrifty. I forgot how good 461’s were on fuel. 5208396B-5CDE-44B2-B524-0FC662409BEF.jpeg
