First cut with my chainese 660 before tuning, second cut after tuning the high speed some, later I tuned the low speed to rev faster.

25:1 mix with 50% you know what. It idled for about a minute before each cut as I setup the camera, so the muffler would fill with oil.

The second cut speed is right up there with my muffler modded 2188, but with a better chain, and a muffler mod (stock FT muffler now) It should cut a good bit faster.

Saw runs good, but you have too much oil in your mix. I like 40:1 with AMSOIL Saber. No smoke!

Do yourself a favor. For the first muffler mod, just do one thing. Drill a 1/2 hole in the lower back of the baffle.

After that, do whatever your want (remove the baffle, enlarge the openings, etc - and see which one runs better.

A lot of these 660s like a little bit of back pressure.

I used heavy oil for the first run, just to be extra nice in case there were any metal shavings left over. The cylinder looks good after the first run, and the wetness prevented even the slightest bit of carbon build up from the rich first few cuts.

I did drill a 3/8" hole in the solid part of the baffle directly opposite the exhaust port. Is that what you were talking about?

Angle your exhaust outlet to the chain
And you won't need bar oil.

Yes, but I would make it 1/2", then judge any additional changes from there.

I have some 660s that prefer the modified baffle, and some that prefer no baffle at all. I like to lean on a saw (I like when it has a broad power curve), and some of them loose the mid range power when the baffle is removed (other's don't). But if you try it both ways, replacement mufflers are kinda cheap!

I was even able to remove 1 baffle (that I had modified) in tact, so I can put it in mufflers that have the baffle removed to see if the saw does better or worse.

He got basically the same results as I did with the ported 390xp. 8 and 9 pin slightly faster than the 7 pin. I’d imagine with a shorter bar or softwood the difference would be greater. I’ll still prefer to use a 7 pin for work with a chain setup for it. But sure, for racing I’ll try that 8 or 9 pin... if the saw is faster with it.
