The issue is, no 2 opinions of optimal are the same. Without tuning in the cut or accurate unbiased timed cuts, we'll never know. But like you say, on some saws, the tune is worth quite a bit. I've seen 50% difference in cut times on the same stock saw and neither were 4 stroking in the wood.I find some saws it doesn’t really matter if there just a little fatter than optimal and others it kills the power.
A 2166 was actually the saw that I checked with in the above postExample: 372OE it kills the power when it’s too fat. 372XT doesn’t matter as much if it’s slightly rich. Same saw. Different top ends.
Wow, maybe I need to revisit testing lol. I tried with 372xt at 13,800 with unlimited coil and tuned at limiter with blue coil. Maybe it was because the saw made more power with the blue coil vs black?A 2166 was actually the saw that I checked with in the above post
That's very possible. I've noticed differences with unlimited coils vs not.Wow, maybe I need to revisit testing lol. I tried with 372xt at 13,800 with unlimited coil and tuned at limiter with blue coil. Maybe it was because the saw made more power with the blue coil vs black?

Blue 346 coil works great on them.I noticed the blue coil don’t like to be advanced as much as the unlimited coil, which supports what Shaun said. I also used a unlimited coil from a 350 husky. It’s different than the 372 black unlimited and blue limited even though they will both bolt up. Don’t like the way the 350 coil idles at all on the 372XT. Works ok in the cut though.
I'm running a black coil from a 2149, and it seems to do pretty good.Blue 346 coil works great on them.
If you're running that on your 346 give it a little timing advance, 1/3 of the key or so.I'm running a black coil from a 2149, and it seems to do pretty good.
On a 372XT? Mine was very erratic and hard to get the idle to be consistent on 372xt. Swapped back to stock coil and problem gone. I’m also running a early lighter 371/372 oe flywheel which might make a difference. Coil could have been bad too... but who knows. I’m leaving it alone since it works good now. Probably feels that way cause the husky is smoother.I think the 036 is faster if you time them. About 2 seconds per cut.
