Notice the hook and slightly thinner raker on c83? That chain cuts very well for stock out of box chain, aggressive yet smooth.

That was carlton chain on the 064 in my video I posted FYI. I got it to cut decent after a couple filings. Great chain for firewood, just doesn’t bore cut as good as oregon or husky chain.

I use Carlton most of the time. Factory grind isn't great but it holds up well in dirty wood and I like it after a once around with a file.

I am a fan of Stihl chain though...but don't tell anyone.
I like Stihl chain too.
Just not a fan of the price.

Not trying to step on anyone's toes nor dissing any brand - if it works for You great!

I find it kinda funny that You guys go to lengths modifying Your saws and then pair them up with mediocre to sub par chains. o_O

I now have two Archer chains, different makes.
One is a dedicated work chain and nearing it's end of life. It is an OK chain, but I was never able to make it perform like an Oregon LGX/Dolmar 099.
The other loop is nearly new, was new when I got it. It cuts well no doubt, but it is loading the saws excessively. This might settle with a couple touch ups but I am not in the mood to keep this loop on my MMWS6100 and find out, it'll go in a storage box for now.

For me the experience with TriLink chain is just plain bad! The chains I got are anything but fast, they're only good to cut dirty wood, period.

I for one really like Oregon LGX/LPX aka Dolmar 099.
I am also coming to like Oregon Vanguard aka Dolmar 496 after modifying them. I grind off the bent over section of the rakers and reshape them a little - they become speedy chains sharpened with an Archer Fast Filer jig, hold a really good edge too.
I "fixed" three of them yesterday, they'll become dedicated work chains.
Thank You Sondre @SOS Ridgerider & Wayne @Dub11 for sending me those chains! :)

I am curious to try Oregon EXL other than my @jmester custom made Full House.
I have a loop of it thanks to Sondre, but it needs a little bit of fixing first.

Again, no disrespect intended - if it works for You that's great! :)

Stihl RS and RSL is hard to beat right out of the box, and I also think it holds up the best. Sure it cost more … but if it keeps an edge longer, IMO it is a small price to pay. The only time I would not recommend them is if you rock them on a regular basis, and I try very hard not to do that!

Of course, every now and then, stuff happens!

I do prefer .325 RS on the 50cc saws for several reasons. No stupid safety bumper link, larger cutter and cuts better than any other .325 I’ve ran. Holds a edge well too... downside is it’s a little hard to file and more expensive compared to oregon.

On the contrary... I will choose oregon exl 3/8 over 3/8 rs... the stihl rs has no advantages over it imo. The stihl RM however is nice for a semi chisel if you want to use semi. It is better than the other semi chisels out there imo.

Durability. Stihl is generally harder chain.

You try the NEW Hooskie .325 yet? I hear it's good.

When I spun that loop I put the tie strap on upside down :oops:
I didn't specify the reason for the loop needing a fix my friend! ;)
Still, makes for a funny topic. :D

Lucky hit!

You ought a post that in the other thread about what You have found cutting wood.

I generally have nothing against affordable products as long as they perform well and hold up decently.
So far cheap chainsaw chains failed to win me over!
But that's just me and my limited experience.
