I was cutting Ash. Kinda middle of the road hardwood until it dries then it'll test a chain for sure. It's a pretty good chain in soft wood. Worth the money for sure. Hardwood is a different story.
The fist cramp afterwards was excessive.Excessive.
That was low gearAren’t you post to warm it up first?
.
2166...blade change, more throttle blips. I think there's more to be had, will likely go back in it.

Looks good2166...blade change, more throttle blips. I think there's more to be had, will likely go back in it.
I think dropping the rakers will help. It's sharp just not biting as hard as I'd like.Looks good
I just touched up a archer chain
It cut better now than out of the box.
Most chain's are like that
Takes a couple sharpenings to get them to cut the best.
Chit I don't know. It's straight outta the box, probably 30° top plate. How much hook does it have and what angle is top plate?
I use Carlton most of the time. Factory grind isn't great but it holds up well in dirty wood and I like it after a once around with a file.Carlton I have never cuts as good as stihl or oregon exl. Too rounded on the top plate corner I think. Really a semi chisel almost.
Your gonna be ousted...I use Carlton most of the time. Factory grind isn't great but it holds up well in dirty wood and I like it after a once around with a file.
I am a fan of Stihl chain though...but don't tell anyone.
Damn it! You weren't supposed to see that. LolYour gonna be ousted...
Holds up great like you said because of that more rounded corner though.I use Carlton most of the time. Factory grind isn't great but it holds up well in dirty wood and I like it after a once around with a file.

Exl and c83/c85 are my favorites. Cut nice out of box, hold up decent, file decent and are affordable. Stihl chain is great too but more expensive... usually.Carlton chain is difficult to sharpen. Cutter looks like its all chrome. Kills files. Doesn't cut as well as other chains.
I'll have to disagree. It's not as hard as Stihl chain, I've never noticed it killing files prematurely either. And I use a lot of save edge files.Carlton chain is difficult to sharpen. Cutter looks like its all chrome. Kills files. Doesn't cut as well as other chains.
