I'd like to spend a day with a ported 390xp, 395xp and MS661 to see which one I really like best. Piss revving and cookie cutting are fun, but I'd love to see which one would grow on me and really put a smile on my face w/bars ranging from 24-36", especially in Locust and Hedge...

Once you ran all of them you wouldn't run the 390 anymore, it's a heavy pig.
I think a strong ported 395 will be very hard to out cut but the 661 vibes less and is no slouch especially with a long bar.
When I cut down I use my 395,once your use to how it cuts you won't carry anything else.

Heavy pig? I didn't think it felt a lot bigger or heavier than my 372. Now the difference between my 9010 and 372 is a lot more obvious to me, but maybe I was on the crack the dy I got to run a 390?
I'm a bit confused now.

I think a 390 is to heavy for the power, I've sold everyone I've had but I keep the 395, I'm going to get a 661 soon and from what little I ran one I'll like it.

Did you or someone else build your 395? I've thought about having Randy build me one or buying a new woods-ported one from Terry... If I do, my 9010 might go down the road as it seems to hate me.

I ported it and couple years ago,it's as strong as I could make it. I'd have to look for the numbers I used but I know it's 225lb compression cause I checked it today.

I've worked for a good while trying to build a 066/660 that will beat it, I think the 066 is have now is the closest so far and will probably beat it with a 24" but the longer the bar the farther ahead the 395 will be.

Out of curiosity, are you running .375" or .404" chain on it?

I don't think a 390 is in the same class as a 394/5 or 661. I got a old ugly 394 that'll whip that 395.

A 32" .063-.404 bar on a well-ported 395 might be about dynamite for my usage in stumping...

I don't believe there's a saw that will beat a strong ported 395 with a 32" 404. I've seen a couple 661's that are getting close.
