I do quite a few of them about an inch below grade or flush because many would rather save the money on grinding a stump(also they don't want to deal with the yard being tore up even for a short time). I don't mind filing a chain a bunch of times when I go into a job with that in mind and the charge is built into the job, when I get stuck sharpening and I wasn't expecting it, that stinks.
When I do them I top bar them and keep the point the chain enters out of the dirt so I'm tossing the dirt away instead of pulling it through the cut, it saves a lot of filing, but not all of it.
No wrap handles on that part of the job lol.

I charge them for a new chain per Stihl prices. $30 sounds like a killer deal then.

I keep a beat up bar and chain for stumping like that. All boogered and stuff, but I sharpen it to do what it has to do.

I only cut at the farm. If I don’t get’em low enough, they wreak havoc with the mower. It has a tough life anyway, so I try hard to get them flush.

I keep the chains that started losing teeth for stumping, after two stumps cut below dirt level such a chain is done and finds its place in the recycle bin.

In case I had to remove a stump and had no severely worn chain I would simply use one of the TriLink chains I have.

A shallow stump will destroy a lawn mower in a blink of an eye.

I did 7 or 8 of them with the 1 chain.
They were pretty soft and pulpy so the full chisel kept on scraping its way through.
It was dull as hell once I was done though

I bumped the timing 1/3 or so of the key.
I cant say I can tell any difference, but with all the rain we had earlier and now single digits, the wood is frozen solid.

I still need to work on the chain too.
