I’ll throw a bit in.

Reagent grade ethanol is 200 proof, or 100%. ‘Grain” alcohol is 195 proof because of eloquensence (ability of a substance to absorb humidity from ambient air partial pressure of H2O).

That being said, I was friendly with my chem TA in colllege and would get 6 gallons of the above for $30.

It worked just fine on the people that needed it.

Ethyl alcohol is straight up shine bro. The way to get it from about 195 to a full 200 proof is a step above normal distillation.
Not to say it can't still be used as rubbing alcohol though.

Pretty tasteless and hits you all at once like a big hammer.

IIRC, we used 1 gallon of the above, 2 cans of Koolaid dry punch mix, and a garden hose to fill a lined garbage can 3/4 full.

Was some wild nights at the frat house.
