We shouldn't worry if are chain is hot
After all most cram them in the ground at wfo. Lol
A sharp chain that self feeds will be cooler.
It's easy to tell what kind of chsin the owner keeps when you take his saw apart.

Explain further Jason. What is different? Bad bearings of you put lots of down pressure on the bar? Vice versa?

I'd like a boroscope. Faster than taking muff off to check for scoring.
What temp should one be looking for on the muffler with IR thermometer to start worrying about scoring going on inside?

Clutch bluing and plastic melt I solve that by running sharp chains.

First thing you should do is learn to sharpen when new at this. It's a good skill and can be done quickly as you get better at it. Make sure you are able to do it on site / in the woods. I take two chains for each saw and 2 or 3 saws the second chain is for total chain failure,. Multiple saws so you can stop once if sharpening needed. It's the 2 or 3 saw plan so you can have a productive day cutting.

If you can't sharpen then you have to take many more chains when doing yard trees!

I guess that's why they sell parts.

Got several that are cracked and I've welded some up. They all wear out. The 660 dual port ones will Crack the bracket off the front after a while.

Wow. Is that why you put the exhaust port in front to help rid the heat?

Hottest I've seen is 400 degrees on the fins
That was a 235lb 066 after a 30 second cut.
In a few seconds it would cool to 200 idling.
They cool way faster than I thought
Temperature drops very quickly. Less than a minute and it wouldn't melt the 400° temp stick.

I use a front outlet since it's the most direct way out.
