MOFO 026

Tached out at 15500 and held 13500 throughout the cut.

Stihl 18" .063 bar with Stihl .325 full chisel chain.

Wood was frozen and dead. Not as hard as oak or maple, but hard nonetheless.

You guys make me chuckle with your "in the cut" comments. If you are holding that much rpm, file a better chain, and gear up, you will cut more wood.

I don't understand Dan???

Take a look at the chips the saw is spewing out. I just touched up the chain prior to the cut. Round filed to Stihl spec. Not sure what else I can do to the chain. Give me some guidance please.

That will lower or raise my RPM's in the cut Mike?

Is 13500 on the cut ok?

Ok. Thanks. I have a 18" 3/8 bar and chain I can use. In fact I did do a side by side video of the 026 using each bar and chain setup a little while back.

I suppose I could run an 8 pin .325 rim and see how that does.

Jeff, the saw looks like it is running fantastic.
But an in the cut rpm only tells you how loaded the saw is. Think about that 026vs 346 Matt posted where the 346 was twice as fast. The 346 was probably cutting in its peak torque zone, 9-10k, while the 026 was probably cutting at close to where yours is today. But it cut slower. It wasn't loaded enough due to a dull chain. Those saws are in reality very close in power. What I'm trying to say is rpm in the cut is very subjective. If you pulled harder it would slow down.
I doubt the saw you have makes the most power at 13k, so it would cut more wood loaded more, and chain and gears are the best way to do that.
With a higher gear, you can spin more chain with lower rpm but have the saw where it makes the most power.
If you want to try sq chain, come on down.
