Got my 084 in some 3 foot wide, long dead, rock hard, gnarly red stringy bark today.
Chain was off the roll Oregon 404 full comp full chisel and had done several runs already.

Saw ran great and is really strong.
Pulled the 36" with a 404 8 pin no worries

CFB, your saw even looked strong before it was ported, how much more do you think the porting added?

Also, what filter is under the cover (I would say the Black saw, but they are all Black!)
The porting added about 1500-1800 rpms to wot and about 1000 rpms in the cut and made the throttle response quite snappy. The lean on power also improved. Before porting I could only load the saw down to around 10k before the chain would want to stop. After porting I can load the saw down to around 8500k before it wants to stop.

The saw with the air filter cover is Dalls saw. It has an AM white pleated air filter on it. (The same filter that Jason likes)

Good filters.
I like the foam gasket that actually seals to some extent.

What piston you gunna run?
I don't know.
I have several to pick from but probably a 460 piston.
The ports in the am cylinder look more conducive to make power that the oem cylinders do but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Gonna try to jam a 046bb on one also.

I've wondered about the bb kits and a bb460 kit on a 440. Would the added weight of going 2mm or 4mm oversized add any vibration. I would think the counter weight on the crank would be balanced for oem size/weight piston?

Anybody built a 044bb that ran good?
Video?
Planning on trying J. The 54mm BB I have here has some tiny tunnels though. I'm wondering if that would add a ton of velocity because of the smaller volume, or whether it will just be a dud. I could always weld up the tunnels and make them bigger.

Don't work that way on saws. I used to think the same.

Many OEM saws with multiple piston sizes onthe same crank. 038 came in 48/50/52 mm. I believe all with same crank.

We need someone to come out with a stroker kit fir 440's, 660's and 880's. Lol

I don't think there is any room for a stroker in most of them, things are very tight already. IMO, there would be no room for the counterweight needed (unless you shorten the piston skirt, not a good thing).

My brother, a PE, says they don't balance them they "over build" them. That is why you can change or modify the piston w/o re balancing the engine. Do not try this on a car, it will end badly!
