Is the higher revs a characteristic of these hybrid saws?
That's what I hear.
I honestly don't know much about them
I've only built 3 and the other 2 were years ago and best I can remember ran like *s-word. Lol
I did some of what I heard and winged the rest. Got lucky on it
I got a couple more here to do so I'll see what there about it recon.

Yes, but usually at the expense of torque. That has been the "mystery", to find the torque. Usually, a ported 046/460 will just out power them.

OK Jason, how much timing advance, and you gonna reveal the transfer changes, cause I think that is where the secrets are buried! Oh, and did I mention, I want a strong running hybrid ... BAD!!!

You are still using the non D cylinder?

It's a stihl branded 460 cylinder with a round chamber. I've never been able to tell any difference in them ported.
It's advanced a lot. 040
I changed the roof angle from the tunnel all the way out and put 1 more degree opening angle.
I did a couple hours work but only raised one side one degree.
The number isn't as important as what happens when the port opens.
I think rpm is all in the transfers and not exhaust height or intake duration.
Exhaust is almost 103 and 4 strokes past 16k.

Thanks guys, for your excellent comments. The beauty of a site like this is that the collective knowledge allows us to attain heights that likely no one would be able to achieve on their own.

Jason, I think the high RPMs are also driven by the reduced case volume, which acts like a crank stuffer, but it can also make torque difficult to find.

anyone that says hybrids don't make torque have never run deetsey-d's hybrid. fact.

I was very impressed with his hybrid (and the 2 others) at the CT GTG. Now I'm trying to determine why they were so different than previous ones I have seen. FYI, all 3 had D chamber cylinders!

32" bar with a 9 pin

Very impressive to be running a 9 pin w/32" bar on a saw of that size. Any secrets you wish to reveal about what makes it so strong? Also, do you find the D cylinders work better on these? Thanks.

Not all D cylinders are great, the compression bump isn't needed. Easy enough to get 200 psi with a regular chamber.

The port timing is what makes a good runner. If a cylinder has good timing in the trans stock, then it will be a runner.

For me anyway, everyone has their own way
