@huskihl mentioned something about this at the GTG and it’s been rattling around in the back of my head.

I’m sure those of you with more experience (probably especially guys who port like Kevin or race like @Armbru84) have a feel, mental notes, or maybe even physical notes on this. I’m starting to get an idea and will probably start recording what I find.

What are good/bad/average cut times for wood types and diameters? - and saw size, ported or not, as well as chain type.

Post or discuss away, thanks!

What type of wood is a huge variable. One of the most annoying things to do when setting up any log/wood/cant type setup for gtg, racing or whatever is consistency. Same wood type, milled down too exact dimensions etc all in an attempt to give everyone a fair go.

I meant to mention that. Became hugely apparent to me switching ends when racing @PA Dan.

Most of what I get my saws on is hard, is fun to get to cut fast wood.

Apparently a few years back there used to be a secret high speed wood that a particular fella would use to show off his saws. It was special stuff, as it was mostly rotten but looked like it was normal. It was known as Ohio-speed-wood. Damn you could get some RPM's in that stuff.

FWIW the fastest I ever got was 4 seconds with a modified 084 Stihl in a 9" poplar cant . The average stock 200T Stihl will do it in the 15 second range on a 9" .Myself and another guy did same in around the mid 11 second range . It's been so long ago though I can't remember how many cuts it was .I might add those were over the block not cold start and the 200's were before rapid super pico chisel chain with 6 tooth rims .

I think @PA Dan and I have some work to do then! :D

On a more practical or work side,

@huskihl didn't you say once something like 36" bar in 34" hardwood 3120 25 seconds?

Not sure about the times, but wood makes a huge difference. I doubt this is under 30 seconds, but it gives you something to go by. You know how hard the log is
