Has to be at the carb flange, only place I didn't check.
It's driving me crazy,it's still very strong and still runs ok and most that would run it would say it's awesome but I know it's off,I've been looking for a problem for 3 weeks off and on.

I'm trying to convince myself that it's a airleak there because I haven't checked there but I don't think there is.

I'll find out tomorrow

this is one of those frustrating issues where you wish you could just hand the saw off to a shop and say...FIX IT.... then you realize... you are much more qualified to fix it than any shop...... DOH!!!

First mistake any fault finder can make is convince themselves it is one thing. Never do that!
Keep an open mind and start again from scratch tomorrow.
Start with the basics as it likely something simple that you have missed.

Fluctuating engine speed has to be variation in fuel/air ratio.
I am not sure if spark would do this but stranger things have happened.

I recently put one of the Chinese full rubber kits through an MS660 and I noticed a tiny little tag of rubber in the new impulse line hole on the carb end.
I investigated and it was difficult to blow through the hose.
A blast of compressed air saw a 1/2" long ribbon of black rubber come flying out the end which freed it up.

I no longer take "new will work" as gospel.

It has the newer style boot and flange like a 660 has and out of God knows how many of them I've looked for a airleak on have never one time leaked there,I've had the carb off several times and everything looks good so going with the 20 years of experience and 100's of the same saw that have never one time leaked there leads me to believe that it probably isn't leaking there either.
I hope it is though.

I cant wait to see what you find.
Finding a tricky problem is always a good feeling and so satisfying when you get something running properly again!

Just dont fall into the trap of thinking something cant casue a problem because you have never seen it before.

After 25 years of electrical fault finding in heavy industry for a living, I have learnt to always start with the simple things, never assume anything and never say never.

I have seen static electricity that was jumping across perspex sight tubes in pipes with fine powdered product blowing through them, continue to jump over the sight glass even when it was completely wrapped in copper braid.
Sometimes things happen that defy all your training, experience and knowledge which is why I never say never!

keep us posted mate

This is another reason I never use a vacuum test because lots of problems will pass it but nothing gets past a can of eather. Plus a vacuum test only tells you it's leaking but doesn't tell you where and it takes time to set up and eather or brake clean or wd40 is immediate.

Does the idle shift slightly when you spray it?
