I always shake my head when the truck rolls out at the mess on the floor. Make a guy wonder how much strength is lost from rust.

If the wife drives a cool truck, I won't be the one to stop her...

Check with forums dedicated to your truck (trust me, they exist) and read up on what you will have to do to keep the O2 sensors from throwing codes with a gutted cat. There is normally a trick to it. If you don't have downstream sensors, nevermind...

Gotta love rust belt trucks lol. Keep up the good work. Heres some shots of my project. 96 f150 4x4with 300 inline 6. Just got done putting new oil pan and pushrod cover gaskets. Ive done a lot more than that so far haha. This has turned into quite the project. Time to work on the front end now. Hope to have her on the road by the end of Feb.20161010_162752[1].jpg 20161106_121757[2].jpg 20161226_102115[1].jpg

Slid right over the pipe. Not sure what it does... must be a heat sink.
What was that stuff inside it? Oh well. Couldn't be that important.

Do you have yearly inspections there with a sniffer test in the tail pipe ?
A lot of the gm cats have about $85 to $130 worth of scrap material inside them that got broke out of there .

Brian, I don't even know your wife and I like her! Taught 2 wives & 2 daughters how to drive stick, but now you can't even get em in most cars/SUVs. You could only get the stick in the Escape with 4 cyl 2 WD.

The scrapyards around here will not buy the guts, they have to still be inside the cat. I have been known to stuff the guts into other cats that were previously gutted to get the $ for them.
Yes ,have to be inside of it to i-d what material is inside them ,there is a part # on them ,certain #s are worth more than others .

I brought a box of honeycomb from a K5 blazer that was all clogged up. I cut the top off and TIG welded it back up. They wouldn't take it, so I just stuffed it all in an old 77 Dodge truck cat I had lying around that had been gutted previously. It would likely had brought more money in the housing it came in, but they wouldn't take the Dodge cat gutted, so it was a win either way for me.
