Finished it up this morning. The throttle rod took some trial and error to get right, I used a 440 rod. For the 440 carb I swapped out the choke shaft/disk and left the 440 throttle shaft in it, also swapped the top cover. I fired it up for a second but I have to modify a bar to fit it before I can try it out.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I used a 440 intake boot.

Yes. I forgot, both covers on carb need to be swapped. Only the choke shaft needed to be changed.

I tried a 440 throttle rod and resorted to using stainless tig wire instead. A lot cheaper and easier IMHO

A piece of tig wire would have been quicker.

I tried to tune it and I think I got a dud carb, I can not get the low side to tune and I can screw the high almost all the way in and it's still four stroking. I have a 390 carb so I'm going to give it a try.

It so much easier to just drill and tap the choke shaft. Trying to swap shafts and shutters is a recipe for air leaks. PXL_20210908_221219262.jpg

Swapping the shafts was pretty easy and only took about 10 minutes, including the time to grind the flat area on the shaft for the bigger choke plate.

I got the 390 carb on it and it seems like it's going to work out. I do have a problem with it talking to long to return to Idle, maybe an air leak at the back of the carb? The outer intake ring looks a little to thick to me and I think it maybe keeping the rubber boot from making contact with the carb. I had to go in the house and take care of the kids for the rest of the afternoon so it will be tomorrow before I can get it figured out.

I also swapped the 361 boot for the 660 boot, and did not drill the carb body for the impulse line. Impulse line is attached directly to the carb.

Put a 660 outer ring, .010 thinner the the 361 ring, and an OEM 660 inner ring in the boot and that seems to have helped.

First and second cuts, the first one is in the biggest piece of oak that I had left and the second one is in pine. It runs better than I expected. Right after the last cut it sounded a little funny but I think that it's because it was running out of gas.

On the next AM cylinder I'm going to lower the exhaust a bit.

I think you did a fantastic job, the objective for me is to make them run at oem performance levels or just a little bit better.
Considering that I can't even touch a used 361 for 300.00 ,locally I'd say that you did pretty good.

Thanks, I've never ran a real one so I don't have anything to compare it to.

I gutted the muffler and deleted the gasket on this one Ronie. Probably bumped the timing some too. Stock otherwise. All OEM. You know me. At this point the stick of hickory was pretty much the full 20" bar and judging by the way the 2171 ran in it it was hard as a mfer.

Thanks Tim, they look closed but I think the real one looked like it had more grunt.

Different wood. Different chains. Hard to tell. I will say I was pleased with how it ran in that wood that day.

Did you end up getting rid of your 562? That would be a decent comparison. I don't feel like my 562 had a ton on the 361

Look like a very good running saw and they feel so light compared to my 562.

I still have it and it would smoke it with a long bar, I'll put this chain on it and make a couple of cuts so I can compare.

I just pulled up the video of my 620 with just a muffler mod cutting the same piece of pine and the 361 was 2 seconds quicker.

I should have put OEM studs in it.
