I posted yesterday's haul in the Firewood thread, ut thought maybe I should have put it here, since it is definitely a "score"

Here's todays haul. Load 2.

Load 3. Just a small one to finish off the day. Time to relax for Thanksgiving now.

Things look pretty dry in Kansas. Same as Nebraska because drought is severe. If this keeps up, winter kill will be enormous. Great for dry firewood, however. I guess we have to look at the positive.

Unfortunately, yes, it's extremely dry out here. I don't remember exactly, but I think we've had around 2.5" of rain since May. We had a spell where we went 2 months without anything and the majority of those days were upper 90's to 100's.

If we don't get some snow this winter we are going to be in for a world of hurt next spring.

Nice load! I know this...........a lower deck trailer is in my future. Pickup box trailers are good for what they are, but it sure would be nice being able to roll rounds up onto a trailer, or be able to flip them up onto the deck.

Loading these trailers is much easier. The dump trailers make it easier to unload, but you still have to get the big rounds on board initially.

If you look at the last picture, you can see a little pickup jib crane by the tailgate. Or scroll back a few posts from yours on this page and you can see it better. It's pretty handy. I use that and a set of log tongs and a chain.

Here's the way I used to do it with a shop-made log lifter. Down position prior to the lift:


Up position with most of the weight handled by a pair of car trunk cylinder lifts:

Then I just rolled it on board. I seldom do this anymore because noodle cutting the rounds into halves and quarters usually makes them light enough to flip end over end on stairs made from bucked rounds:

Yessir. Look at load 6 and you can see a small pickup crane. I use that and a set of log tongs and a short 3 ft chain. It does extremely well, considering it was only 100 bucks when I bought mine.
