Nice load buddy.
I've never seen hackberry look like that, do you know what type it is.
Have a 9-10" one I need to remove at our place(probably this week/end), and a couple 2-3".
This is what ours looks like, pretty neat looking, very unique.

Hackberry is hackberry, there are no subspecies like oak and hickory, as far as I know. The bark can vary drastically, from smooth to very rough like in your picture. I have no idea why. We have a lot of hackberry around here.

I've always said those saws were way under rated, much like the 359, they pull well at lower RPM.
Do you run a 20" on it.

I believe its an 18.

I've seen them like that, and completely smooth, and every variation in between. Supposedly there's Hackberry, then another tree called Sugarberry, then I assume they mix to varying degrees.

I tried looking them up when I saw his post and I couldn't find images of any smooth bark varieties, and that was only looking at articles in his state. That being said I've see many species that look nothing like the same species from another region.

I didn't find any images that showed totally smooth like yours though, just some that had more smooth on them.
I didn't get to mine today, I did push down a black locust I'll cut to log length tomorrow after stripping the branches. I have a couple codom black locust to push down if I can too, and a nice size cherry I'll just fell and flush cut next to were I'm moving my accessory drive to.

Not really completely smooth, 90-95% smooth. Sorry for the confusion. There’s always some of those bark warts somewhere. Limbs can be smooth though

Interesting.
I went for some black locust instead of the hackberry.
Pushed them over after a bit of digging with the kubota, dropped them right where I wanted.
Also moved around a few sticks for milling down the road and a bunch of logs for firewood. I need more space for pole barn materials and the trees where they were piled need to go for the drive/in front of the doors.
Another good sized codom stem locust(just left of the one in the opening) and a couple more smaller ones, a couple smaller cherry, the hackberry, and a bigger cherry and I'll probably be done cutting here for a bit.
Hoping I can get it all done tomorrow, may be setting my hopes a little high, but it wouldn't be the first time I didn't achieve a goal, I'll get over it if I need too.

Sliced diced and put away nice.
Bucket of smaller rounds and 10 logs for the piles.
Go the one to the left done as well, got another bucket and 8 logs from that one. Got the hackberrys too.
Don't think I'll be able to get anything else done here tomorrow.
I'd like to get after the larger cherry, then everything I need for a truck to get in will be done, but I want to do a few more so I have more room for materials, got my building permit today .

Yup, 7 ft. walnut, slabbed, stacked and drying. I plan to forge some table bases for them in a year or two when they're stable.

old latex paint is all. Maybe not the most professional, I suppose. I have heard checking will stop at the stickers. Is there any truth to that?

i think birds spread seeds. hackberry must be something they like to eat. but I am proly wrong.

Been quite on here lately but been busy with life in general but had a decent haul here at the house after having 4 trees taken down. LOl shortly after the pic it got loosly covered,, If its covered too well it gets mould. We get more than 3ft of sno.
It will b next years wood.
May go to same spot an get more
